Now that I'm a proud owner of an electric windlass from The Good Windlass Co. I now need to plan a bow pulpit for my winter work. The windlass is for 5/8" line but I have a 20' chain leader, this may cause me to create a catch basket for the chain that cannot pass through the windlass. ANYTHING is better than pulling in 200' of anchor after doing a deep dive. You are not supposed to exercize after doing a decompression dive and believe me pulling in the anchor is exercize even if it doesn't become entangled in the shipwreck.

Any who any ideas, advise, or pictures would be appreciated.

Huh?

Any and all accomplices welcome but just remember I live in the Great White North. But any ideas and pics would come in handy. I know of the where abouts of a pulpit rail with a bit of fiberglass decking still attached and I hope to go about collecting it pretty soon. One of the advantages of being willing to dive on any old pile of boards, sometimes you find the unexpected.

Only the waters off of Alpena County to the 82nd longitude are a National Marine Sanctuary. They are working on expanding it to include Presque Isle and Alcona county out to the International Boundry with Canada.

That said the State of Michigan is very protective of her shipwrecks and will take anyone to court who is raping them, anywhere. On the other hand an anchor lost overboard does not immeadiately become property of the State. I believe the same is true for stainless steel bow rails.

C J,

Thanks for the heads up on that N M S info. I’m sure that you’ve dove on the wreck “Detroit” that sunken hull has stolen a many cannon balls & a few down riggers or 2 great fishing area when the divers aren’t out there. Whistle I guess they retrieve what ever they find snagged on the ole wreck (I’ve left a couple of balls down on that ole wreck myself ) d'oh! “I believe the same is true for stainless steel bow rails.” Go for it Applause if U don’t someone else will d'oh!

C J,

In the area near the wreck “Detroit” hell with the price of lead them there cannon balls cost $23
for a 10lb. $27 for a 12 lb. Retrieve them sell them for half price & U’d still be making out. Them dar
goofy fishermen at Alpena municipal marina would jump at them prices. Down riggers go for
about $650 & up with a little tender loving care to them U could easily fetch $300/$400 for them
