To All,

This is in reply to a earlier A/F boat paint, earlier this boating season I did a test by mixing
Cayenne pepper with a primer paint in search of finding a cheaper way of painting the bottoms of
our Ole Girls
My findings where (in freshwater) there was no difference, slime was the same as with Trilux 33,
Cleaned up just as well with the power wash down, there where no critters on either surface
Trilux 33 or the pepper mixed emulsion. So this up coming season if I can find a blue primer I
believe I’ll do the bottom in a pepper primer mix on the whole bottom seemed to me it work just
a well as the high priced TriLux A/F. Unfortunately my camera was not at hand when they
popped the boat for the season so I couldn’t take pix of the bottom & the test areas by the time I
was able to get the camera they had just about had the bottom cleaned up Brick wall So U guys will have
to take my word on the condition it was in as I said in another thread as soon as I get all my
ducks in a row I’ll post some pix’s of what it looks like after 6 months in fresh water after it was
cleaned compared to the TriLux 33 again in my humble opinion I’ve seen no difference between
either paint emulsion except the price $$$$$$$$$$$$ of the two Think

Mike,

I’ve been thinking of using Primoco Underwater Primer & seeing if I could get a blue tint added to it. The test batch I mixed was a pint of some auto primer I had mixed in Cayenne pepper about 3oz till it got really tacky add a few oz of thinner to make it spreadable seemed to work as well asthe high price spread Think Now on the bare bottom I’ve been considering going that route buthaven’t had the $$$$$ to get the bottom blasted. By chance if U get to see those bare bottom BigMs take some pix & post to the site so we could view the effects I’ve post some pix of a 50 some footer (houseboat) supposedly constructed outta the same AL. thatBigMs BM are made of, I’ve watched now going on about 3/4yr seems to be doing well & doesn’t seem to have any more crap on the bottom than mine with A/F applied Think cleans up just as well with a power wash & at the time they where both afloat in the Saginaw river basin which isn’t the cleanest water way in MI.
AnyWho one of these years I my try the bare bottom method Anxious

Dennis,

I think I’d use the Primoco Primer less of a problem then the two part 2000E/2001E . I’m pretty sure I can get Napa or the likes to add a blue tint to the primer to get some resemblance of the blue I’d like. Now I’m not sure it’ll really work as I stated these where only test areas in spots that slimmed up pretty much with A/F paint like on the transom etc AnyWho what the hell it’s worth a try.Think Hey it just came to mind would U be will to sand down the bottom for me seeing U have your boat up to snuff now with nothing to do in the off season Pray I’ll buy the BREWSKI’S Whistle

I assume that the red color is from the 'red' pepper? In my case I'd have to use black pepper. Where we slip, anything but black or dark brown AF looks like hell after a week!

Jeff,

Not sure just how much more the Cayenne pepper added the redness of the color but the primer was originally red. Like I said these where just test area & would be underwater & not seen so I didn’t really care about the color. But before I do the whole bottom I’ll check with some paint authorities to see what would be the way to go to achieve a blueish hue. Think

How do you wear the cloves? Strung around your neck like garlick or just stuff your pockets with them?

Hey Norm, what with the extra plate in your center transom and what looks like a mini out drive or something. Hell your BigM looks alot like mine with that plate. And I am really glad that you can mount trim tabs on the permament fixed tabs...any secrets I should know about mounting them?
