Let me explain the situation....................
A highway bridge at the front end of our marina is undergoing renovations. The contractor was cutting out some of the concrete which contains rebar. While cutting the dust from the process drifted down onto some of the boats. In the dust there were metal dust shavings that turned to rust spots after the dew settled on the boats at night. Any idea what might remove the spots from the paint. My boat has Algrip paint and I'm the only metal boat involved all others are glass boats. The works by Lysol has worked on the fiber glass but its an acid based cleaner. Looking for some advice.

Rust away, mix the powder with warm warter, make it weak and cover area with rags to hold the stuff where you want it. Should only take .5 hr to get rid of it.
I just kept scrubbing until the rust was gone then rinsed it down real good.

We had a similar problem at our Marina. If you recall, we have two bridges above our docks. The contractor on the bridge work had to clean several boats and replace some canvas. All the boats affected were fiberglas so I don't know what would have been used to clean. Check with the Highway Dept in charge of the project and file your complaint. Hopefully they will be responsive.

Stan, Do what Max suggested a few years back when I moored at a marina on the Saginaw river we had the same experience except with coal dust from a power Co. so after enough boater &the marinas filed complaints every time there was a E N E wind they’d send a cleaning co. & power wash the boats plus the finger docks so that the coal dust wouldn’t be tracked on the vessels. Like they always say the squeaky wheel gets the grease it my be worth a try get up a group or a petition & take it to contracting Co doing the bridge work. If they refuse threaten to walk it thru the EPA - QED & U watch how fast they change their tune when they know the cost of encapsulating the work area If that fails put some of that CHERRY juice on them rust spot that’ll take any thing off been thinking of getting a qt. of that stuff to mix in bottom paint instead of Hot pepper powder them dar critters would get so drunk they wouldn’t be able to hang onto the bottom Norm, Big s Live On Even dirty one Keep your hooks wet & your Butts dry also make sure your whistle stays wet

I have used a product on many boats with rust spots, its called OSPHO, get it at the local ACE hardware store, DON,T BREATH IT, it looks like green kool aid, put it in a spray bottle, spray it on your engines, it turns the rust into an iron oxide, the next day just repaint, this product will remove rust from paint and fiberglass, takes a few hours or overnite to work, do not spray it on rubber hoses on your engine.----Another trick if you want to strip down a fiberglass boat to gelcoat is to put some MURATIC aCID,like you use in swimming pools in a spray bottle, stand upwind and spray in on the boat, stains and wax disappear!!! Great for removing the $hit ring you get just above the boot strip on boats Also takes off old oxidation, wash off with a hose and rewax--Got SS handrail?? get some COLINITE , comes in a plastic bottle and is brown in color, this stuff is amazing-rub it on the rust and just wipe it OFF, it also puts on a protective film so the salt water wont restain the metal. I buy boats and clean them up rather quickley with these products. Have FUN!! Sorrydog

Hey Dog, Have U tried the Colinite cleaner & polishes they also work great been using them for years the nice thing about them are the easy on & easy off even in the sun than all one has to do is sit back with a Brewski in hand & listen to the praises of the dock walkers & other boaters to All be warned wear a extra dark pair of shades the illumination is blinding Norm, Big s Live On Keep your hooks wet & your Butts dry also make sure your whistle stays wet

I'll have to buy some and try it, A few years ago while in the Bahamas with my buddy on his 40 Sea Ray, we had to wash the salt of every nite after running. While in a shop one day I bought a bottle of the Colonite metal polish, told him that nite, If you wash the boat by yourself, I'LL POLISH ALL YOUR HANDRAIL, He Said, THATS A DEAL!! about 30 mins, later I was sitting on the dock drinking Breskies, while he was still washing the boat-- It was kinda hard trying to listen to the Island music with him bitching about what a SORRYDOG I WAS!!!!

I didn't quite understand whether you actually work on the boats yourself, or get your mermaids to do it while you sit back and nurse a cold one. In all those pictures on your website, there isn't even ONE that shows you working......

Well, I don't w--k, but I know people who do. I guess they get tired of poverty. I'm getting used to it, since my nest egg got scrambled.
