Bottom Paint

Hello All,
Just pulled my boat yesterday...................
I used the shedding bottom paint from Schilling Paint in Cleveland OH.
It was thier vrsion of the trilux 33 for al. boats. My camera batteries were dead so I'll post pics later.
I paid 45.00 per gallon (black ) vs 187.50.
I was satisfied with it on the bottom where there was allot of friction, very little scummy stuff there.
Along the sides just below the water line there was some algea growth but nothing a pressure washer couldn't cut with ease. Next year I may buy a small can of trilux to do the sides but not the areas of high friction. I was well pleased and it was worth the eighty mile drive to get it, even though it was in the Browns territory.

This past spring I purchased a 39' Sedan. The bottom needed work, so after reading this forum, I had the boat totally redone @ mirror image in catawba. They sandblasted the bottom, applied primewash, barrier coat, then Schilling paint. They had not heard of the paint, and I made a deal with them to lower the price and I would provide the paint. Just a little info on the Schilling paint: Mirror image called me after the first coat of the paint and told me when they went to apply the second coat that it just wasnt going on right...very runny. They called the manufacturer and were told they needed to rough up the paint before applying the second coat. The end result....I paid about the same amount as if they would of applied the trilux because of the extra labor between coats. I also think that in my haste to get the boat in the water, I didn't let them dry the paint enough. They actually put plastic on the pads for the trailer because it was sticking to the paint! While the boat was in the water, I kept a close eye on the paint to see how it was holding up. I started to get nervous because it appeared there were a lot of spots where the paint was rubbed off. I helped keep it clean by scrubbing it in the water. When I pulled the boat last weekend I was expecting to find half or more of the bottom paint gone. To my surprise, it held up much better than I thought. I think the worst areas where were the pads were for transport and high friction areas. I know the paint works by shedding so I guess it did its job. I decided for the price, that I'm going to stick with it next year. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on multiple coats. I wonder if multiple coats were applied within a certain window, if you would still need to skuff between coats. Just my two cents!
