Well the MDNR has finally admitted that Cougar have returned to Michigan. I heard a news clip on PBS this morning. They sighted tracks found near Manistee and Newberry as evidence they now are adding the predator to their calculations for the deer herd management. Personally I have been listening to firsthand accounts of sightings in Northeast Michigan for over 8 years so this comes as a surprise to almost no one here.

Please, don’t let bull sharks in the Lakes, so at least we can feel we are at the top of the food chain while diving!

I, for one, am happy to see the return of cougars, bears, wolves, bald eagles and other species to their once-native settings
but I think people will have to learn the hard way that some are predators who will prey on small humans if other food
is unavailable.

It's the non-native invading aquadic species that concern me. Zebra mussels, asian carp, etc.

We've had lots of cougar sightings here around Chicago and a young male made it all the way to the middle of Chicago before he was euthanized by the police. They did not have a tranquilizer gun available.

I'm glad to see cougars are moving in up here. They cut down on all the those pesky joggers and bicyclists. Were also getting a lot of great big timber wolves.

You'll have bad times, but they'll just wake you up to the good times you weren't paying attention to

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Those of us who dive in the Caribbean are used to being in the middle of the food chain.

Back in the 70's my buddy Jim Thompson (now Captain Thompson, 1700 t. all oceans) and I went out about 20 miles to dive for lobster (the tasty ones, not the bite-y ones) and we were anchored and all suited up and ready to go over the side when he pointed.

There was a hammerhead swimming along just under the surface, he must have been 8 feet between the eyes, and nearly as long as our boat.

Jim looked at me, I looked at him, and without a word we stowed our stuff and motored back to the Tiki Bar for some consolation.

I don't think I've ever seen a shark I thought was small.
