The reason I've been quoet--and thanks for noticing--was that the "Admiral" and I took a trip to the Outer Banks by car: 1130 miles. Only a Cheapskate like me would go there at this time of year (hotels were dirt cheap). Not a lot going on, but it was fun!

CapT I used to live in Oak Ridge, was raised there and used to take my old 50 ft houseboat out and run down Melton Hill (the Old Clinch River) and see the white coated Mountains from the river, still have fond memories of those trips. Would be the only boat out there, Ice cyciles hanging on the roof and a fire in the fireplace. Moved her to Floida in 1979. Took my first overnight cruise, that evening, sitting on the front deck while anchored in a little cove, saw a dying Palm Tree just off the bow and was thinking of taking out the fireplace. I figured just one last time,I'll light a fire Now that I was in Florida only right that I SHOULD burn a Palm Tree! Got out my trusty chain saw and as it was getting dusk thought I'd better hurry Soon as I started cutting, thought I saw SPARKS FLYING OFF THE BLADE!!! Damn must have hit a NAIL and dulled my BLADE!! Tried again more SPARKS!!! Finally wittled off a piece about 2 ft long. Went to pick it up and it was HEAVY AS HECK!! Went back drug it to the boat and got it in the fireplace to light my fire, opened some of the windows to let out the Heat then set back with a Glass of wine and remember the old times. The LAST FIRE! LIT THE LOG, RELIT THE LOG,THEN RERELIT THE LOG AGAIN!! GOT stater fliud an RERERELIT THE LOG, Finally got a prepackaged fire log and some kindling wood I had stored to get the damn thing started!! About that time the boat started to fill up with Smoke, the fire alarm detector started its high ptiched whine, got down on my knees in the smoke to check the Flu,damn it was OPEN!! Ran up on the roof to check the Smoke Stack for a BIRD NEST, BLOCKAGE??? NO SMOKE COMING OUT!!! WHAT THE HECK!! Picked up a boat hook and rammed it down the Stack and pulled out an OLD PAIR OF JEANS, One of my old TENN. Buds stuck down in the stack at our, Going away party!!! To be FUNNY!!About that time another boat pulled up seeing the smoke coming out of the boat windows, to help. Explained every thing OK, that I was just trying burn a Damn PALM TREE and relax. Of course he wanted to see THE fireplace on a boat in FLORIDA!! Then informed me NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO TO IT,YOU CAN'T BURN A PALM TREE!! THEY DON'T BURN!!! AND DON'T TRY TO CUT ONE WITH A CHAIN SAW, SPARKS WILL FLY OFF AND YOU WILL RUIN YOUR BLADE,THEY ARE FULL OF SAND AND HEAVY IT'S LIKE TRYING TO CUT CONCRETE!!! DOGPOOP!!!! Drank 3 bottles of wine and went to bed!! Next morning got up to toss the unburned Palm Tree. Looked on the front deck and a whole school of Mullet fish were lying on the front deck where the had leaped up there over night!! I KNEW THEN I was going to LOVE THIS PLACE, You dont even HAVE TO CATCH THEM DOWN HERE!!! THE FISH LEAP IN THE BOAT!!!! Sorrydog

Yep, new years eve on the beach...again. Last year we were on Miami Beach for the NYE fireworks. Hopefully there won't be any white crap in FM. Pray

Sorrydog. Way to funny a story, thanks for sharing. And as for you Docsnow, my friend you can keep that crap up there, I lived in Cleveland OH for thirty years before I got smart and moved south. Thars truth in the sayin " Nobody ever moves North for the weather" Although I do miss Ice fishin around the islands. Lol. The desire to go ice fishin got so bad one year after we moved here, I tried to freeze the top of our aquarium. That did not go over to well with the wife and kidsThink .
