I saw a pic of a aluminum uscg boat, think it was posted on the forum ; i'm not sure. I think the type was called ( right itself ) ??? It was out of the water in a boat yard. If anyone remembers the pic , please post. I have used the search. Wearing out my eyes!

Hey Mark, I THINK that was in the "BARE BOTTOM" posts on here...I remember the pic too...VERY cool looking boat...but I can never seem to get the SEARCH function on this forum to work for me so I havent been able to find it either Sorry. If YOU can get the seaarch to work I would look for that thread, and then either post a link to it for me or send me the pic too.

Thanks

Bill,
Thanks for the info , I know what you mean about the search , seems to have a one track mind. I'll keep on looking and if i get the pic, I'll send it to you. Really dumb of me not to mark the post .
By the way a few years ago my wife and I were working in Aberdeen MD. and had a weekend off. We rented a small boat and took a small trip up the chesapeake to the Bohemia river. Remember seeing Turkey pt. , Elk " something , But checked out two marinas. Sure was beautiful and had a great time . A lot of fun people up there.

Hey Mark, Great Thanks and I will do the same when/IF find it. Im in Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbour on the Bohemia river, thats the marina with the miniature ighthouse on the end of a stone jetty, dont know if it was one that you checked out but I like it...been there on and off for 20+yrs. The Elk something was probably Elk Neck State Park, Turkey Point is part of it, Turkey Point Lighthouse is on the cliff where the Elk River and the North East River and the Susquehanna River all kind of come together not far from Aberdeen at all. If you get back to the area you should let me know...there are several people on this board that are fairly close to that area, maybe we can all get together...tip some COLD ones, tell some lies and check out some boats!

Whoa, room mate, that's an RIB. (See below.) Sure there's some magic metal on it, but the hull is f-glass.

Bill,
Can,t remember the names of the harbours, Havre de Grace is were we rented the boat. They also had a nice nature trail or walk which went along the shore line to a lighthouse. I think they said it was one of the oldest in the U.S. Will check out the others on google ; might jog my memory .
Wanda and i still have friends that we met up there and we do go visit every now and then. We will surely give you a howler and for sure tip some beers and check out the boats! We do that everywhere we go.
You and yours have a great holliday!

Jimski2,
Thanks for the site reference , neet boat but not the one i want to see. Still looking.

Jeff,
Your right about the area there. We also worked in Delta PA. at Peach bottom . It was just beautiful there.
Since we were right on the Susquehanna , it made for a great 8 weeks. The farthest north we went was York and Lancaster. Is it as shallow as it looks?
Also nice pic, but still looking for that all alum. sitting in a boat yard.

Marinette Marine Corp. owns a shipyard located in--you guessed it--Marinette WI. They are not affiliated with the company that made our boats and used belong to Manitowoc, but are now owned by an Italian ship building company.

Maybe someday the USCG will be parting with some of these beauties at auction.

Harve de Grace by the Susquehanna is an interesting place to drop anchor. I thought my depth finder was acting up when it said 160 feet deep only a hundred feet from shore! It wasn't, but out in the Bay, to the north and west, the entire area--and we're talking square MILES here!--is only a few feet deep (due to silt build up from the river). Many a boater has come to grief out there!

Thanks to all who sent their pics . This is killing me because I didn't mark the pic or post. Most of the photos i have seen are of the new CG multi- mission crafts, but Jeffs is the first with outboards. Thats easier on our money . All i remember is it was ,maybe 20 yrs. old , all alum. with a true hull, no fiberglass collar or whatever they call it. I'm sure i'll run up on it in time.

As for the new CG boats, I am sure they are fine, but it's hard to believe that anything that ugly is any good.

Thr USCG does not paint alumnum above the waterline usually. Their thoughts are paint adds unnecessary weight.

And then there are the Seal's
4 point harnesses, shock mounted standup seats.
They were taking these out into 50-60 knot winds to train!
Apparently they dropped one from 2500'...by accident. The fall broke one of its two 500hp cat engines motor mounts!
