We were docked at the Holiday Yacht Club In Chester WV, ran into Mr. Tom Draper, proud owner of a beautiful Marinette house boat. The "DRAPE SHAPE V " just turned forty. Tom is the second owner and has had her since 1972. Her are some pics .....enjoy. By the way, she is number 90 out of 125 made. Tom is a walking history book, gave him this web site, hope signs on.

Slick. I assume it has the usual, single 318 to 'move' it fom slip to slip?

Yea it's a single 318, had it rebuilt one time since he had it. H e said it was leaking oil and was tired of cleaning it up, so he pulled it and had it rebuilt. The exterior was very clean.

a guy at our marina has a 50' steel hull house boat travels nicely at about 6 to 10 mph.with 310 hp.

Stan, thanks for the pictures and for crewing for me yesterday.

We knew the Drapers when they traded a Lyman for that houseboat in 1972. As you can see, Tom is an extraordinary mechanic and boat-keeper. And a really good guy!

That old 318 (v-drive by the way) pushes that houseboat around just fine. You won't break any speed records, but on our part of the river, the biggest pool is 10 miles long, so what's the hurry?

Now, there's a really smart combination: Nice, roomy (though slow) boat, with not a lot of cruising distance available. I could go for that!

I have a 1969 Marinette Houseboat WITH twins - 318s.

The boat puts at around 25 miles an hour (by GPS speed!)

Last year I pulled out every wire, and replaced with marine grade wiring.

This spring, a bit of carpentry . . . but would certainly like any input that anyone has on refurbishing the woodwork / Cabin.

If you are going to install some wood panels I am a firm believer in the rule:
beauty is in the eye of the Admiral. Happy wife, happy life.
I am installing luan 1/4" plywood that I've stained to look a lot like the original teak.
I like it and she likes it, so it works for us.

Every piece of wood on the Marinette os screwed and can be removed. I removed every piece stripped sanded stained with interlux red maghaney paist filler stain then six coats of interlux varnish and not one person does not rave about it. Must say it was a hell of a job.

They didn't do it at the factory, but let me suggest back-priming the panels too. That might be a bit o/c, but in theory the finish on the other side should last longer.

Welcome Patrick. Good winter project. Just unscrew everything ( mark it on the back to where it goes) Refinish in the garage and replace. Lots of past info on this job in the forum. Good time to put insulation next to hull sides. Post some photos. We all like to see BigM .
