Hi All.
I have a New Never installed, Professional Mariners NewPro 20/35 -3 Bank completely automatic 35 Amp battery charger.
But no installation booklet and wiring diagram, without this infomation I am stuck and will not be able to install it. I am hoping that members on this Site can help me with this info. Also is it wise to install this battery charger which has 30 year old technology?.
I will have to buy 3 new batteries and thinking of Optima BlueTop.
Any advice would be appreciated.
John.

John,

Here’s a tip that came with my battery charger instruction manual on the choice of the proper size
battery cable. A excerpt out of manual gives a example the total cable length from the charger to
battery & back again. For example, a wire length of 10ft.means that the charger is 5ft. from the
battery.

Wire length Wire size Wire size
TC 20+ amp TC 40 + amp

Feet AWG AWG
10' # 10 # 8
15' # 8 # 6
20' # 6 # 6

plus all battery’s must be of the same type all should be either Flooded, Gel, or AGM type

There's a pic of what my charger looks like hooked up on the thread "placement of a new water tank"
My manual on the charger is on the boat 250mi away sorry

Hi John.
That unit is a ferro-resonant constant voltage charger. Mid-century technology. It's deffinately not state of the art.
If you are upgrading to optima batteries you might as well get a smart charger that will charge faster and make your batteries last longer.
That one might cook your batteries.

I suggest using the internet to find and download a copy of the instruction manual.

Google is your friend.

Here is ProMariner's site with contact info and support downloads.

There is nothing to wiring a 12V charger. You have 12V positives and 12V negatives to the batts and connection to 110V supply.

I have a "mid-century technology" ferroresonant charger aboard. It provides a float charge that is just right for maintaining batteries - I am using mine with Optima batteries.

The problem is that it can never fully charge the batteries at float voltage, because they need higher to absorb all they can. A modern charger has three levels, for bulk charge, float, and maintenance. I get bulk charge from the alternators, float from the charger, and maintenance with a solar cell, 85 watts, that puts out a constant 2.5A up to perhaps 17 volts. This tops the batteries up and maintains some charge even when there is no ac. The batteries will handle the 2.5A indefinitely.

Good modern chargers are great but expensive.

I recommend the Optima blue top without reservation. My house batteries are going on their eighth year with no problems. I replaced the starter batteries after six, although they still started the boat they had lost about 30% on a load test.

Last winter I was fortunate to purchase a rebuilt two bank marine charger from (?? literature on boat). It's a factory rebuilt unit and is fully warranteed unit. The price was good (naturally!) and it works great.

Thanks to whom (on our site) recommended it. Perhaps youi coul;d score one as well?

If your looking for a quality charger check out Dual Pro. They sell mostly to OEM.
http://www.dualpro.com/

I'm using the PS2 (dual 15 bank). Is actually 2 independent charging circuits in 1 unit. Made in USA and is serviceable. No throwaway.
Plug it in and forget about it.

I cant take credit for all of this. Someone else on this site recommend it to me last year. Cant recall who it was.
