I know that kA 90 anodes for boat .What anode is used for the shaft zinc or aluminum?

I have read that anodes are not required for the shafts if they are properly isolated from the hull. However, just to be safe, we have zinc anodes on our shafts. When we purchased the boat the shafts did not have them.

Me too. Cheap insurance, and they only last a few years (in fresh water). That tells me they're needed.

I would think that you should have anodes on the shaft. The shaft assembly is two different metals, stainless and bronze, and one of these will be the loser unless you provide a sacrificial anode.

I guess this is more important in Florida saltwater than in northern freshwater but the principle is the same....

I would use anodes on the shaft. When see pics what I found when rebuilding my BigM
I had to buy new shafts and props. The props had pitting in the taper, the key was powdered. The shafts had pitting under the strut bearings and at the prop taper. The boat was in fresh water, well if you call the Ohio river fresh but there is no salt in it. The hull was in great shape very little or no pitting eventhough the paint was in bad shape.

I would use mag or AL if in fresh water.

My boat does not appear to have ever had anodes on the shafts but I would rather be safe than sorry, I see you mentioned mag. or al. So are the shaft anodes not available in the KA90 or ?? Please explain, I can see that because it is an isolated assy. it would maybe work fin with conventional anodes. ??

I have only seen anodes in aluminum or zinc never in ka 90 I have some strips of kA 90 for future hull trim tabs and rudders.
