Has anyone on the forum with a 28' express ever made their own canvas enclosure for the rear deck? Or does anyone have a pattern to make one ? I am wanting to make one for our 1977 28' express cruiser.Yes I am a cheapskate sometimes. As much as the canvas makers around here want to charge me for such a small job I want to try my hand at it and sew my own .I already have a nice bimini with a stainless frame.I figure some sunbrella a few zippers and screening /eisen glass material along with some snaps I should be good to start.I have looked at the sailmakers supply site and see they have a lot of the stuff I need .Any info will be appreciated.

Does making one for a 32 footer qualify? The wife made ours out of flybridge canvas and lots of effort.

Steve,
I think i still have all the the orignal rear deck cover with window that zips open to exit stern for my 1972 28ft. express. I believe they might be the same in size. I'll check tomorrow and if it's still in the shed, your more then welcome to have it . I think it was used as a pattern for the new cover. Let me check and take a pic to see if thats what your talking about.

Folks: I moved this thread - a good discussion - here because it wasn't a "tip or trick". That section is for info on how someone actually solved a problem and is passing along ...well, a tip or a trick ...as opposed to having a dialog on a problem.

I got a book called Canvaswork & Sail Repair by Don Casy. It's got plenty of good drawings. It starts with simple projects and goes onto complex bimini awnings and boat covers. I got inspired to look into this because I had to pay $48 + supplies to replace the zippers in two cushions. I still need a cover to protect the flybridge seats and guages, covers for a v-berth mattresses and cushions for the flybridge bench. I also would like to get a bimini for the flybridge and an awning for the rear cockpit. I may end up paying up for all this stuff but some of these would make good projects for next winter.

I follow most of your posts and you are doing just fine. Putting something in the wrong section isn't a capital crime or most of us would be long dead. Keep up the good boating!

Okay, heres some shots of the old canvas. Two large panels that zips in the middle and two that zips on the side. The blue is whats on mine. They added two rear aft side panels to make a one piece fit and makes for a tight weather fit. Also a zipped way in and out without unsnapping the sides.
My Email add, is on my profile but please don't mail me in any foreign languages, i'm still busy with school.

Wayne,
Sorry i didn't respond to your post about the rear deck cover right away; but got a few minutes before i leave. If you can wait till the weather breaks , hoping in March or April your more than welcome to borrow mine to make a pattern. I go to Chattanooga about twice a week. Would be glad to drop it off to you. I know Steve said he would pass the old one along to whoever needed it when he was done. Let me know if your interested.
