Wayne, Gotta say you deserve a Bottle Of Captain Morgans for that POST!!!! Reminded me of launch day on my endeveor!!!! Having took a 60ft. Alum hull strechting her to 70ft, then adding a second story did take a little time and $$$$- Thank God she is was built as a Marinette Catamaran and I put 2 Detroit Diesels in her that wieghed 2400 lbs apiece along with 660 gals of fuel along with 400 gals water!! Also added a 6 person hot tub on the lower deck.Beam is 16ft. I unlike the 2 guys above did consulte with a Naval Arch. However I did have a dream one nite where she rolled over!!!! I then consulted 2 more Naval Archs. We then conducted water test, finally put 20 poeple on the 2nd story on one side, did a list check. Next step was to take her into a several slow turns and figure 8ths with water drums up on the 2nd level-after they ran computer tests. I'm sleeping better now!!! I spent 1/8 of what these two guys spent and 4 years doing it. I did have to finally take out a sencond mortgage on my house. Good thing I was single back then!!! Sold a piece of property to get that PAID OFF!! If I knew Obama was Coming, I would have saved myself ALL THAT FUN!!! For all the Newbies, go to www.sorrydog.com-- click listings at top--then scroll down to Motoryachts--check out Yacht "SORRYDOG". Click on the Mermids & Tales to see the pretty girls back in my Chartering DAZE on her. I'm reminded of an old man I met on a dock in Daytona one day, he was standing out in front of his boat -I said NICE BOAT- he replied yup! Only took me 3 HEART ATTACKS AND TEN YEARS TO BUILD HER!!!!Sorrydog

Not much similarity between these guys and Sdog's project - I have actually seen her and she is better looking than any of the boats around her. Works, too, getting decent speed for her power. I started a movie of the interior with the man himself narrating, but had camera troubles so there is nothing to post.

I think the biggest disappointment is the failure to plane fully, but that is all by the numbers, and a cat is fast without planing fully. I remember a friend of mine buying a go-fast boat, and I told him that everyone goes 15 knots offshore and no more because it's offshore, not the river. So we took her over to Andros to visit friends of mine, and had two 400+ cubic in engines going - 15 knots. On the way home he destroyed the boat, but that's another story....

That is amazing. I've always wondered about how you calculate buoyancy, weight distribution etc. There must be equations based on width, height, weight etc.
I'm no naval architect and certainly would never attempt something like that unless I had all the math worked out as precise as possible.
Trial and error is not acceptable in this application.

There was mention of design software, but no detail. I would like to know what they are using, so I can avoid it. Seriously, they probably have those upper decks fabricated in 1/4" steel plate like the rest of their work. You just can't do that, and you don't need ballistic protection unless you are running drugs. They might be OK if they had done the upper decks in 1/8" aluminum, and there would be a lot less maintenance.

The steel hull / aluminum topsides combination is common on workboats. You can even buy strip with aluminum on one edge and steel on the other (I have no idea how they bond them) that you can weld to the deck and to the topsides.

There sure are equations. Lots of them. I have books full. Too bad they didn't.

Gentlemen,
Lets give Paul and his associates just a little credit for their undertaking to build this boat. Right or wrong, and in any of their decisions to build this vessel. I commend them for just the TRY. Forget the money , thats not where it at . It's a built not bought . I know the thread was drug out a bit , but it sure got a bunch of attention. Remember the world was flat at one time.
