You are likely looking for Naugahyde, a brand that is often used in boats.
Years ago, my friend had his new wife working on cushions for his boat. She went to the fabric store and bought a nice roll of naugahyde, which is cloth-backed vinyl. When I saw it, I asked her if she knew how many baby naugas had to die to make cushions for her boat. She didn't laugh, and I figured that some folks just don't think I'm funny.
A few days later she wasn't speaking to me at all. Apparently, she went back to Hancock Fabrics and told them that she wouldn't have any part of slaughtering baby naugas. They were nice about it but I imagine she was mortified.
So, Doc. Do you realize how many....
