If some one knows that would be great but I am more expecting opinions and will likely combine my best guess with the average here. I am looking at used trailers and it plays in to choosing. I am far away from my boat so I can't even look at it and scratch my head. What do you think.

I'll go first and I am thinking the middle to front on the engines.....

Doug, I would think you are about right. Just wondering, where are fuel tanks? I guess under aft bed, how big are they?

Fuel tanks are just stern of the shaft couplings and go rearward long ways with the boat from there. 120 gallons per side. I had not thought about them much but they are certainly all behind where I expect the fore and aft center of gravity to be so to maintain proper tongue weight and trailer adjustment I will have to be concious of fuel level. Low fuel -vs- full fuel will actually add a lot of tongue weight.

Doug,

I think that the balance point would be near the front of the engines. How much tongue weight do you plan to have on the trailer? Remember you need to keep enough weight on the rear axle of your truck so the tires won't spin when you haul out on a slippery ramp. I've seen a few trucks with enough power to move a house spinning it wheels on the ramp trying to pull a 5,000 pound boat out.

Here are a couple of pictures of our 39 aft cabin on two different trailers. I hope they will be of some help.

My guess this is the setup you are going for.

That is great help !!! could you send me those pictures via e-mail in the native resolution so I can blow them up and take a better look. On the tongue weight the aluminim trailer folks say they want 600 lbs. On my deal so the truck will likely be a tire fryer with out a little help.

Thanks in advance. Doug..........

Well the search seems to be over for a trailer. I was going to Fla. in Mar. for some time off and I found a trailer builder that will build it the way I want and at a price I can live with. It is to be done in time to pull it home as an empty with my 1/2 ton Avalanche. I'll post a picture below of one that is set up a little different but the same basic trailer.

Doug,
Have you considered getting the trailer as a 5th wheel setup for the semi-tractor? With a 5th wheel, you can load the tongue weight with as much as you want to get traction. With trailer ball hitches, I think you will be limited to 1000 pounds.

I think once the engineering is figured out mine will have the axles a few feet farther forward and I would like the main bunks on top of the main frame rails. I'll learn more next week as we get into the details of fitting the boat.

I did consider the fifth wheel Idea and it would be nice but there are a couple of things that swayed me. One, is it costs about 2500 dollars more and the other is I have a chance of getting it to the house on a ball hitch with a 4wd truck as I have 1 very tight turn coming up the hill. You'd have to see it to believe it. The grade and proximety to the hillside of our drive actually scares a few people in good weather. Got no business trying it but I have a heated work shop it can go in for tinkering all winter if I can get it there, gotta try.

I am pulling the empty trailer from the builder to the boat while on vacation. Would your Peterbuilt pull it out of the water with out help. My single axle freightliner don't have a chance, It won't even come up the driveway at home.

They are building my trailer late this week and early next for pick up on the 20th. Any last thoughts before construction starts, were working out the details in the next day or so.
