Anyone have experience replacing the bulkhead between engine compartment and cabin. The boat is a 88 32' Fisherman. Purchased late last summer, surveyor missed this one. Lower half of bulkhead is shot. (Why did I sell the 28 express?). Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
thanks -goby

I helped a buddy of mine rewire his boat, a 1988 32' fisherman, and discovered the same issue. We will probably tackle this in the spring. As we started to remove stairs and floor panels it seemed like it would be a two sided job, that is, work from inside the cabin and in the engine compartment. As the wiring went we mounted everything on fresh plywood and starboard with the intention of making it as "modular" as possible to avoid doing things twice. Since the boats are virtualy identical I am hoping to benefit from your forum postings.
Thanks in advance and good luck,
Chris

All the bulkhead wood is perfectly sound in my sedan. But, I can't get deep into the "wine cellar" area where my water heater, air conditioner and water tank is. I need to clean out and replace all the old insulation materiel in that area. I also need to try to run a new 4" flexible air conditioning tube along the port side that starts in there. If I cut some big access panels in the engine room bulkhead I could probably be able to reach all the way inside that area without taking the whole cabin area apart.

If my bulkhead was half rotten I would bolt new plywood in using the good part as a frame.

"...If my bulkhead was half rotten I would bolt new plywood in using the good part as a frame. .." That would be my approach, also. I'd also investigate to find out why it rotted. Should not have happened under normal circumstance. Paint the new wood (easier to do that before you install it. Good luck w/project

Cockpit cover was destroyed and never replaced. Boat was neglected (what a shame) and sat uncovered for two seasons in the water,at least they covered it during winter . New cover should be finished when shrink wrap comes off. Going to take a real good look at the project after I am sure it won't be ruined again. Still open to ideas. Keep you posted.
