I have dirty fenders, and that's the way it is.
I have seen others use lacquer thinner to clean them, even MEK. I just don't like to work with those chemicals, both known by the state of California to cause cancer.

I had an oldtimer tell me a week ago when buying new fenders that people are cleaning them when slightly soiled with shaving cream because it lifts out dirt but leaves them slick because of the lanolin snd not sticky like the petro chemicals do.

Spray9 or Simple Green.

I think the Spray9 works best. West Marine has it.

I cleaned my fenders over winter, used "Marykate" Mildew Stain Remover. I got it at Wolf's marine in MI.
Just spray on & let it set. Worked very well & my fenders were bad! I bought the knight covers 2 years ago, but they faded out bad.

Looks like this guy uses $40 worth of cleaner!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THPQKIPfFUs

I have 4 in really bad shape that are on my list to clean.

Wonder how Tilex and soft scrub would work?

Got this from a boating site.....
Quote:
Speaking of fenders, try cleaning them with auto white sidewall tire cleaner. Cheap, effective. (Acetone good for tough marks on these, too.)

May take them home, tie them to my work table and get out the electric buffer with soft scrub.....Drool

You can paint them. As an experiment, I scrubbed a couple of old fenders with cleanser, let them dry and painted them with plastic spray paint from one of the discount stores. I was concerned the paint might rub off on the hull but it did not. I gave it over a week to cure.

Good luck.

If you have Taylor fenders, and they should stop holding air, Taylor will replace them; no charge, no questions asked.
