went up top over weekend, turned on radio all i get is static,switched antenea box over to#2, cant get weather chanels...nothing. pulled antenae plug apart cleaned,no better,maybe michigan weather has gotten the best of it. lower radio works fine,upper worked fine last fall. will try again this weekend before i buy a new one. any ideas appreciated,thanks,Bill

Try swapping antennas and see if the problem is with the antenna or radio.

My guess is that since there is no reception, there is no antenna. Of course, the radio could be broken, but mine have always just gone dead, no static.

When that's worked out, you need two tools to check the radio transmitter out: A standing wave meter and a dummy load. Directions for using them are all over, including on my website, which is still not up but I will announce the great event when it is. :-)

DON'T fire up the radio without the antenna attached! From what I hear that's instant death for the radio.

fixed it cleaned all contacts,came back to life!original equip

I have powered on a VHF without antenna with no problems but DO NOT hit that transmit key. If the antenna can receive good it can send so most debuging can be done listening to the weather.

Noticed you have 2 radios,good idea! Learned the hard way you need 2 at your driving station!! Was running a 40ft boat into South Cacios island Harbour --Sun had gone down, couln't see the REEF at the turn to port-was traveling with another boat-we were on 68-SAYING TO EACH OTHER -YOU SEE THE REEF???
