Try swapping antennas and see if the problem is with the antenna or radio.
My guess is that since there is no reception, there is no antenna. Of course, the radio could be broken, but mine have always just gone dead, no static.
When that's worked out, you need two tools to check the radio transmitter out: A standing wave meter and a dummy load. Directions for using them are all over, including on my website, which is still not up but I will announce the great event when it is. :-)
