The "Dog" asked me to post this:
Years ago I learned the 'life saving position' and never forgot it. With it, one can stay afloat for half an hour. It consists of bending over forward with your head underwater, holding your breath and relaxing long as you can hold your breath. You then blow out the stale air, rise up to take in a new draft, then repeat long as needed. You get a bit cold doing this, but it works.
