 Going diving under the old girl tomorrow looking for the capoc sending unit. Not sure what I am looking for. Does any body have a picture of it? also if by chance it got painted over how do I clean it off? Ive head no abrasives or chemicals

T: the capacs were generally mounted forward. Mine is starboard and aft of water intake. It's 10" round, fairly thin profile...but center area, the delicate part, is about 3" dia. I would not use anything other than a regular soft (not aggressive) sponge to clear that inner circle. It's made of very thin silv/silver chloride metal.

Well thanks to your response's we found the Capac units under our boats today while diving. Everything looks great clean and shiny silver  . According to the picture you sent peter they should be a bronze color. bottoms of both boats clean. One of them is a 37 sedan and mine the 37 aft cabin both readings are .06 at the dock and away from the dock. sedan has zincs on keel, rudders and trim tabs. Mine only has zincs on the keel. we noticed the keel zincs were 1/4" thick, is that okay or should they be thicker'er? I know I need some zinc's for my rudders and tabs they'll be ordered on Monday. It still doesn't explain the low readings on both boats. I am trying to figure out this isolation of the shafts and rudders. Would someone explain in kindergarten terms, how to check these and what to look for. Thanks a whole bunch

I'll be checking the meters tomorrow to make sure they are working correctly and did I understand correctly that if the galvanic isolator unit is not warm than it is not working properly?

Here is a simple way to check isolation. (It is also on a metal plate on many Big M's)
1. Make up a jumper cable with clips on each end.
2. Check your Capac reading. example: .90
3. Connect jumper to shaft coupler on the shaft side
4. Connect other end of jumper to hull or engine block etc.
5. Check readin again. If shaft was isolated the reading will deflect downward. Example: .60
Shaft isolated = Reading deflects with shaft is grounded to hull Shaft Not isolated= Reading remains the same does not deflect.
