Took my compass off because it was half full (empty) and bought some fluid from West Marine to try and refill it. W-M sells it as a Ritchie fluid, but says it is compatable with other fluids that are commonly used for this purpose. Will let you guys know how much of a mess it is/or I make of it....J

Jack, You should probably check the diaphram on the bottom of the unit as it is probably where it's leaking from.( at least on a Richie compass ) The rebuild is easy and parts can be had. Mark the parts as you take it apart so the compensators are returned to the same location. The diaphram allows for expansion of the fluid with temperature changes. Your Airguide may be different but look for a rubber diaphram. Rick
When I die I hope my wife sells my stuff for more than I told her I paid for it.

The fluid is mineral oil available at your local drug store.

Thanks guys, this is what I found out: It apparently was leaking from a tiny hole in the side of the compass where the gimble was mounted into the glass. I epoxied that with some clear (or close to it) epoxy and then I drilled into the plastic (possibly the diaphram for expantion?) underbelly, where it appears the factory filled the unit, with a drill bit tiny enough to get my hypodermic (one comonly used for ink cartridge refilling) needle into it and refilled to capacity. tried to reseal with a dollop of the epoxy but did not get a good seal, retrying now (cleaned it better this time) and getting ready to head back to the boat in a few hours for a week or so. Thanks for the support guys! will let you know if it works. Rick the airguide separated from the base where the compensaters were and did not need to be messed with and Joe I allready filled it with the expensive stuff from West marine by the time I saw your post.....JAM
