Talked to one of my neighbors that bought a 32 a little over a year ago. He striped and sanded bottom down to bare aluminum and used a barrier coat and Kolor bottom paint. 5 gallons for $399 from thttp://www.ship2shoremarine.com 5 gallons each of 2 colors. After a full year last summer in water he is happy with results. Kolor paint has more of the copper than Trilux do not know if that is good or bad but it seems to work. Kolor is my next paint when I run out of the Trilux in a few years. The price comes out to be $80 a gallon. SICK LEAVE, Bob

I may be wrong but I think I read on the old forum that you were not supposed to use bottom paint with copper in it on aluminum boats. any body remember that?

i think the KOLOR paint has the aluminum friendly copper dirivitive in it....... but your right about the normal copper content......theoretically it will work just fine if you have a good barrier coat, but all it takes is one little scratch, and all hell breaks loose ! http://theboaters.com/boats/Powerboat/Classic_/_Antique/Marinette/express/1964/MHYZHENOne more busted knuckle and i'll have a complete set !

Copper Thiocyanate based paints are safe for use on aluminum. Copper oxide base paints are not.

Got in my qt. of test kolor paint to try out here in salt water. Got two test plates one primed and one alum. Pulled up test plates I had put Navy bottom paint on. Navy paint worked on both primered and plain plates. Summary!! If You prime bottom and apply Navy ship yard bottom paint with coperous oxide DO NOT SCATCH BOTTOM OF BOAT!! The plane plate looked like someone had taken a grinder to it and roughed it up. This kolor has the freindley copper T. Applied it to straight alum. Keep you posted

I used the Kolor two years ago and left it in water on the Ohio river for two years and it did as well if not better than the trilux

I also used the new Kolor paints last year...actually liked it better than the trilux. Although it is thicker and harder to actually apply....but it dries quicker with less runs...and holds up great! I dont think I will go back to the interlux bottom paint again....unless it get to be much cheaper! The Beatings will continue until Morale improves...."But why is the rum always gone?"Capt. jack Sparrow WWW.XSPENCE.COMClick here for my website
