I have a collapsable ladder on the front of the boat. Screws and bolts have gotten bigger as they have pulled out. Does anyone have an idea to anchor a ladder to the front without taking the boat apart and so that it is secure.

dc, don't you have about 5 foot of free board to climb over from the front? is the ladder screwed into the top deck? this all sounds crazy seeing that the transom would be the most sensible gain of entry. is this a full size marinette with tappered hull lines? fastjeff has been expermenting with alo. rivets the size of a mans thumb so maybe he might have a suggestion. i still would like to know why you board from the front. dean

thats the easiest and safest way to "beach it" and somewhat protect drivetrain (rudders/props)

You could weld a bracket onto the front deck and secure the ladder to the bracket.
Only problem is ruining the paint during the welding process.

Rivetnut Rant: I have my swimming ladder, for example, attached to the swim platform with Rivnuts, a kind of rivet that provides a thread. See mcmaster.com item 94020A364.

I like them because

1) You can fix a ruined hole because you overdrill for the rivet

2) The threads are in the rivet so you can bolt to deck, cabin side, etc WITHOUT access to the back side.

3) FastJeff uses them.

Having a collapsable ladder on front is super handy for pulling head on into a sandy bank. I will take a look at mine this weekend and post a pic of how it is attached

i guess i wasn't considering you river guys and the need to beach the bow into the bank. the currents must be very strong and the fear of being pushed or pulled down the river (not to mention being pushed under the bottom of the boat) would make having a ladder off the front critical. i guess another need for front boarding would be having a hugh raft fasted to the swim deck. i just never thought the idea was that popular. oh well raised on a great lake insulates you.
