We had a fire at our marina yesterday. 28ft Rinker looked like a burned out clorex bottle. Unknown cause. took it to the waterline. the fire burned the lines & it drifted out of its slip. Dock charded, Roof of shed blackened. but no other boat dammaged. Sure glad we have Alu. Wayne

Fire in a marina is a scary thing. The boat that burned was in the slip right next to me until a couple of weeks ago when the owner bought himself a bigger boat. While it's a sad event, I'm glad the marina moved it to the sales dock before this occurred.

Tuesday afternoon 06-10-2008 .There was a major fire and explosion here on LAKE NORMAN. You may see this on the news or some where .

Anyway , this boat a 80 foot charter houseboat pulled into the marina WESTPORT MARINA for fuel and pump out , It had just unloaded a group of new graduates from a lake trip and party .They reported that boat had pump out the waste and filled with water when it was being refueled (gas) when the explosion took place. It was first thought that static electricity set the blast off. At

that time there were only 5 people on borad the capti/owner and 4 crew people, Unfortunaly the crew man 19 yrs NATE was killed in the explosion. We're all as boaters very sad that this happened.

The authoritys have the boat out the water which sank right there at the marina . I understand they are going thur it to see where the blast came from , what actually ignited it

The dock had the concrete tiles on it, all of those were blown off.

They are thinking now the intail blast came from under the dock tiles , that fumes had built up and explodes witha force to blow out windows in clost by homes in this cove, It was 98 degrees that day and no wind ...

Talking of course with other boaters i boat with we are going to take more of a saftey stance when it comes to refueling and checking our on equipment , suck as blowers.

It only takes once...

Ya'll be safe...

bay point marina had a fire last night. a friend called this morning with spotty details. could be a lit cigarette as the people where the fire started were on another boat a couple of slips down when the female smoker saw flames coming out of their cabin. the other guy "cut" his lines and hauled stern! 30+ fire trucks on site as the fire was very close to the gas dock. only boat I know so far that burnt to the water line is a viking 42' I guess 3 others also burned up. they were all larger boats so my thinking is that they all may be diesels. there was no explosion.
