Seeing the recent comments on swim platforms me me think to check on my under water light test. I wanted to wait untill I said anything in case they didn't hold up. My" redneck" under water lights are two 50 watt pond lights from Lowes # 191250 @ $49. I mounted them on the braces that hold the swim platform. I drilled the light bracket and mounted them w/u bolts that were dipped in rubber. The brace has bottom baint so I'm trying for no metal contact. so far no problem after 8 months. the lights have to be mounted so the fixture is in the water to keep it cool. I ran the wires up the swim ladder. If they work out I'm will run the wires inside the ladder tubbing. I run them at the dock or running in or out of the marina. They look cool they give out enough light to see about 4ft down. I just couldn't see spending $600 for lights.Wayne (cheap redneck)

Wayne great idea!! Have some rigged on my boat. How many watt are you using to get 4 ft? I am using 20 watt and it will go about 2-3 ft. and do attract the fish. I found mine for $7.99 at www.harborfreight.com # 47604-1vga underwater lights, 120 volt or 12 volt. They will float on top of the water and have 20 ft of wire. When I haul am going to bite the bullet and go big time. check out www.aqualuma.com they have straight 12 volt and eliminates the probmatic ballast from 120 to 12volt about. 75 watts. In my salon I bolted a 4x4 ft. sheet of 1 1/4 clear lexan on the bottom of the boat and have a mounting problem with lights. Great on swim platform. Sorrydog

Red Neck Wayne, we like Red Neck Rigging!! My boats full of it!! dropped a 150 watt light over the side, Too bright, it reflected back up at you. I think the 75 is whats happening. Red Neck Rigger Sorrydog

Some of those new plastic boats "that look like tennis shoes" on my dock have underwater lights under their swim platforms, but don't go under the water. therefore they just reflect off the top of the water. Wayne

You mean the boats that look like BLEACHBOTTLES!!! Didn't see that many posts to day, every one must be HUGGING ther BOATS!!!! Ran into a new guy on the dock today with his homemade boat. He said it only took him ten years and 2 heart attacks to build her!!!

John B. Yea! come to "B" dock, Only two  on that dock. My 32 and a 28 that has been sitting there 9 yrs and never been moved. No power to it. That says somethiing about , to stay afloat that long. Anyway I'm there 4 or 5 times a week working on new cherry hardwood floor in cabin, new fomica counter top & table. I work,take a nap, work, take a nap etc.I think I saw you backing in your slip as I was thking her out for a spin Sunday. Wayne

Does anyone have experience with LED underwater lights? Those 50 and 75 watt bulbs add up to too much for my battery, and I am trying to avoid getting a generator. Of course it doesn't matter under weigh, but I thought they would look great from the cockpit while at anchor.....
