For some moronic reason, Chrysler used two different types of distributor cap/ rotor combinations. One combo has the spring on the rotor, the other combo has the spring on the cap. Use a rotor with the wrong cap and the motor may run, but not for long!

Here's what the two rotor setups look like. Note that one rotor has the spring on top, where the other does not. The caps are similar, with a spring pushing down the carbon contact in one case but not the other.

Finally, note the the LENGTH of one rotor is less than the other--that means some nasty arching would be going on if that rotor was used with the wrong cap.
