I just painted the Marinette I bought with "shedding" paint from Schilling paint Company in Cleveland, Ohio. The Ma and Pa company make paint while you wait. They make a paint with no metals in it. The paint slowly sheads off your boat. It costs 45.50 a gallon. Another Marinette owner in the marina has been using it for years.

Found them, Schilling Enamel Company. Chatted with Alfred Schilling 71 years old and still mixes the product himself!! Sending samples for me to test in this hash area I keep my boat in. Some cos. wont recommend their paint here!! . 7-10 knot current here force feeds nouteants to anything that attaches to boats here. If works will be dealer for Fl. Has rubber base coat for bare alum. Also has copper paint for fiberglass boats 212-252-6242 He Mentioned Ms boats rite off, told him about forum discussion of his paint. Said he doesnt know how to use computer, but thought it was great! (kinda like me!!) They are not big on litirature and pamplets, should have test samples next week. Will know in about 8-10 days if working ( BARNACLES THAT BAD HERE!!!) Sorrydog

Schilling Paint Co. is a pretty small place, but the people are very friendly and informative. The guy in my marina says he just touches his boat bottom up every year (after a power wash). Their side and deck marine paint is pretty nice stuff also.

Now that its not so hot here am getting closer to hauling Sorrydog and replacing the blown engine. Got in my truck last week and the temp inside was 125 degrees!! So i havent been real excited about sitting my metal boat in the sun and climbing down inside and weld!! Been collecting STUFF for haul. Got all the Zincs Bob has had on site coming, Thanks Bob. Got New props being worked. Only problem is the BOTTOM PAINT!! From the above post you can see the Kolor paint sample didnt work here. Grew banicles. The people that have used the Schilling paint, did you use this in salt water with barnicles and was it effective, thinking of going this way as havent found anything else that works here. Talked with mr. Schilling and he swears by it. Open to suggestions at this point. Barnicles are really bad where I dock the boat. Thanks All. Sorrydog

Been really happy with the E paint (EP-ZO bottom paint). Good epoxy primer and the only bottom paint you can buy with zinc instead of copper. Only thing I will use. No growth on the bottom, 3" of mussels and barnacles on the trim tab cylinders I forgot to paint. They don't make topside paint, use what you want there. -- Ed

we had really fast flowing river this spring and the kolor washed away to the different color that was the base coat and that has held up the rest of the time. Don't know about the bottom yet since we are still in the water.

So far I'm happy with the Trilux 33. I just water blast and slap a coat on in the Spring. Have to put three coats on the trim tabs, however, to keep the barnacles off--one coat wears away.

ed, Where do you get the E paint?? Have about deduced it really doesnt matter much what i put on the bottom here. NONE OF IT WORKS!! I may as well just put on the cheap stuff as I have used the expensive and still have to do a maintenance contract with a dive Company and pay them $120 a month to clean the bottom. Used the Trilux 33 last time and 30 days had barnacles. The water under my boat runs at 8-10 knots at slack tide a critter will attach then the current force feeds the critters the nutuients in the water as it flows around them. Sorrydog

Bought mine locally, cheaper than shipping it in special order from Seattle or somewhere. Go to www.epaint.net for info and give them a call on thier 800 line. Very good info from the company. I would mix it, put in a 5 gallon bucket with a roller screen and use a roller with an extension handle on it.( broom handle from a push broom works good ) Put the roller in a plastic bag and put it in the fridge between coats. Good luck--Ed

Hey Sorry Dog, The way I under stand from what I’ve read when we where on the old site someone posted a very well put article on the way A/F paints work ranged from putting peppers juices in the paints to what ever,(lost article due to last years PC crash learned since then to use a backup system) the one thing that made sense was that the more the boat is used & the faster it is run the better the A/F works. Ed, posted the E paint site on which they show different type A/F in their captions take note on at what speeds that the A/F works best at. I been using TriLux 33 for a quite few years now & am satisfied with it’s out come these pix will show what using your vessel as what they where intended for cruising & not as floating cottages :-( as most of us are being forced to use them as do to the present state of the economy FUEL PRICES )-: the A/Fs will work fairly well when used on a regular bases I average 3/4 days a wk. running roughly 20 mi. @ 3/4 throttle round trip than trolling for several hr . I didn’t have time to take pix of bottom this season before they power washed it but that’s another story. But the bottom looked about the same as in these pix as U’ll notice the bottoms are fairly clean were the water rushes by, on the transom the growth is starting to grow fairly well due to no real flow back there. So my contentions are that U may want to try & use the one that states it works best at speed from 0 to 30 mph ?? Or at least talk to the tech. at E-Paint & see what they recommend ?? http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c88/awonyc/Bottom%20shots/After going to pix site click slide show (upper right) for easier veiwing.
