On the 318/ 360, the dipstick tube goes into a fitting in the block, and the tube stops well short of the bottom of the pan. (I use a small tube poked through that fitting to suck out the oil.) Putting a Tee here would not get much dirty oil out.
The bottom line, you need a Tee at the very bottom of the oil pan, like Norm has done.

jeff , what do u think about the front plug on the 318 pan .i can't remember if the slope on the pan is as great as the engine angle .i could make a fitting with a pipe silver sordered in to go back to the baffle.
norm, lake is an hour and 15 min away.and on the chilly water subject some one does need to put the prop back on.and the next project may be strut bushing and maybe shafts.one is tight and one is loose.and i want a kicker and extended swim platform but the mounting brackets don't look like they can handle it.also 4 cases for 5 people should be enough.if we don't spend the night.

Norm, you are right - the tube on the diesels is over 1/2" and lets the oil out quickly. Good thing, since they take three gallons per engine of 15-40.

My 318's came with an oil change pump with hose connected to the drain plug hole that does not work becouse of the slope of the engine and the fact that the drain plug is in the frount of the engine. Can a plug be put in the back so all oil would be sucked out?

Mike, If U have a cast oil pan & there should be a dimple at the rear of it U may be able to drill & tap a pipe plug hole but I seriously don’t think U’ll be able to get to it with out a eng. pull  If it’s a sheet metal pan U are $hit outta luck cause U’d have to take the pan off & braze a threaded adapter to the pan. Tim If & when U decide to tackle the swim plate form project I’ll be glad to assist on some of the does & don’t that I’ve come across while doing mine. One tip I’ll give U now is build a new platform from scratch in the long run it turns out to be cheaper & less of a headache. Than sell the existing platform to a  owner that doesn’t have one, there have been a few requests for them over the years that I’ve been on the site. Norm, Big  s Live On ;

Well, if you could, kinda, tilt the whole boat so the stern is really high... Narw. That won't work. Not sure why they didn't put the drain hole in the rear, seeing the motor tilts that way, but..

Tim, I used a 15hp 4 stroke Merc /short shaft which in my case worked well for speed cause all I’mlooking for is about 2.4 to 3.5 mph my main trolling speed wide open gps reading was a little over 5mph. The problem I encountered was being a short shaft in seas being more than a foot or so it came out of the water to often making me a little uneasy that I might not be getting enough coolant & burn up a O/B motor. Seeing I have to go to a long shaft I’ve been thinking of get a 20/25 hp Etech long shaft with a thrust prop, w/elect. start, auto tilt, & possibly that auto pilot for O/B’s another reason for the larger motor some day I my want to go lickety splitting along at a whooping 8/9 mph joking aside in a 15mph head wind had a problem maintaining trolling speed & steerage. Now that I got that on my wish list just ahead of the other thousands of things on it. If this economy straightens out I may be able to swing one out of .00401 K. Here’s a couple pix of the extended platform I don’t believe U where a member when I posted these before U can see the step by step start from the bottom up once U get to this site if U are interested I know right now U R up to your arm pits with alligators with your motor dilemma hope all goes well http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c88/awonyc/Swim%20Platform/?action=view¤t=swi mplatform016.jpg http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c88/awonyc/Swim%20Platform/?action=view¤t=swimplatform006-1.jpg Norm, Big s Live On
