Hello all,

We bought the Sirius Marine Weather receiver and needed a network switch to connect it to the E120 and the DSM300 via SeaTalk hs . The Raymarine SeaTalk hs network switch sells for $250. Ouch!

Decided to try a Dynex 5 port 10/100 ethernet network switch and it works fine. I understand it isn't built for the "marine enviroment" but it works. Bought two of them on eBay for $10.88 each, one for a spare.

Cheap unit specs:

* 5 port fast ethernet switch upgrades old networks to a 100 Mbps network for a high-speed networking solution
* Auto negotiation ports support auto MDI/MDIX function, allowing each port to operate as un uplink or general port
* Performs up to 200 Mbps/port in full-duplex dedicated bandwidth
* Complies with IEEE 802.3 10Base-T and IEEE 802.3u 100Base-TX standards
* LED indicators allow you to monitor power, link and activity
* Store-and-forward transfer method
* Compact design takes up minimal space, reducing clutter; wall-mountable
* Plug-and-play installation
* 12 volt DC

I'm saving $250 and I'm sure Jeff is gonna be proud of me

"???" I think that the electronics you have on board are worth more than my entire boat. Now that I think of cost as "fractions of an ss check" I likely will continue using folding maps. Sure would like to have one of those big displays, tho..... Not likely that I can talk anybody into it, tho.....

Thank goodness beer is still cheap, or about 1/100 of a ss check per case.....

i just realized how far out of my leage i am .i looked up this e120 thing alone msrp was more than my boat + bottom paint + towing.


i think i'm the poor man in the group.

Got it on eBay for a HUGE price cut. Got all our electronics off of eBay. Saved so many dollars that we are going to buy Norm a kegerator Whistle

Standardized IP protocol allows for use of generic hardware. Did the same for a Furuno setup a few years back. Think I used a Netgear or Dlink switch. Cut off the wall wart and ran the wires to the battery.

IP has replaced serial in 2-way trunking communication these days. A Cisco managed switch from Ebay can run a multi-million dollar public safety backbone. It's really amazing how far we have advanced.

Throw out that hub and get yourself a wireless router!

Then you can jack in your PC and browse the web from the Marina wireless.
