I have been told that to increase power it makes more sense to work on the intake side than on the exhaust side. The exhaust is under pressure and pretty much finds its way out, but a well-polished intake or one with straighter passages allows more fuel-air mixture to get in. And isn't the center-dump harder to work on than a log manifold?

YES!!
Think Russian Roulette with 5 bullets in the old revolver.

PS: Let me know BEFORE your mechanic installs the swivel elbows. There's a trick to it that, if not followed, leads to leakage problems.

all of my riser were shot on the 72 boat and the 84 motor i bought for it had the elbows chem striped to remove the rust inside and sanded the gasket surface flat on a backed belt sander, and bought new risers.84 is fresh water cooled so the manifolds look good.
jeff ,whats the advantage to the swivel risers ,they look harder to seal?i have strate risers and 20 deg elbows.

With the entre you get egg roll...Whoops! Sorry.
With log manifolds you (usually) get the swivel elbows. Inside are two tiny O-rings, one of which HAS to seal or wter gets in your motor. Piss Poor design, but that's what youy got.

Actually, most of the log style manifolds came with the fixed risers and 90 degree or 20 degree elbows.

Most of the 318/ 360 installations I've seen have the swivel elbows. Should would be nice to get away from them.
