Believe it or not, Edelbrock claims those lead plugs are supposed to be there, though not that far down in the carb. They said I pushed them down trying to drill the plugs out. Hummm....

Of course I thought "Rockit" was the perfect name for a 28' express with twin 318s, but the admiral did not agree. After tossing around a lot of names, my assistant asked me if there was an Italian word that would do. (She knows my heritage--American of course!) I immediately thought of the old song and named her "Innamorata". Now I need a really big U. S. flag for the ensign and a red, white and green commission pennant.

I bought the "URSUS" from a good friend of mine, without his help and good deal it would have been unaffordable. The boat was painted with algrip and the lettering is painted too. Didn't want to mess up the paint job. The meaning of the word is bear in greek. Didn't rename the boat but I sure do like cruising the Ohio on her..........................

When we bought "Sea Jay", She was my retirement gift to myself. Eventhough my wife was not completly sold on the "Idea" of a large boat and spending a lot of time on the water she went along with my plan. My wife's name is Clara Jane & we call her C J most of the time, thus the name. I have to say that there was a slight smile of pride when I told her my plan for a name. Hey, a man has to do whatever it takes to get the toys of his dreams, and I'm very fortunate, Thank you Lord!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

First boat, in Cleveland, was an 18 ft open bow: Named after my then 2 kids (there are now a total of 4), my wife and myself, it was the "CharMin' SuJo". Next, on Chesapeake Bay, came the 25 foot Cruisers Inc, "A Meeting". When I left work, I told people I was going to a meeting. Gotta be truthful.
When I bought the Marinette in 1993, it was named "Sallie B" after the owners wife. Bingo. My wife's name is Charlotte, nickname most often used is Charlie. Same middle initial. Thus, Charlie B. The vinyl lettering was easy to replace. -0-
Short story: at closing of boat sale, former owner's wife was present to sign papers. I told her we would take as good care of the boat as she and he did - that is was obvious the boat was well tended and cared for. The owner left me a diary of his boating activity. There, she was mentioned in every reference the first year of ownership. Never once thereafter. It became obvious she hated the boat. Recalling what I had said at the bank, I felt a wee bit foolish. Never assume.

My first boat was a 24' Wellcraft (used) and came without a name. We decided, with much discussion and eliminating many suggestions, ('maxie's pad' was the worst) that MAX'd OUT would be the name. After a friend bought a Marinette and was I was able to run his boat a lot, we decided that a Marinette was the only reasonable boat to own. My 28 Flybridge Express did not have a name when we purchased it from the Port Clinton area in 2005. So, rather than have MAX'd OUT 2 (or TWO), we decided on MAX'd OUT AGAIN. My friend with the 28 convertible Marinette on the river is named Wright so he named the boat Just Wright which is very applicable to any of any size or style. His boat also did not have a name when he purchaed it from Port Clinton in 2001. My friend with the 32 flybridge also bought his from the Port Clinton area but it came with the name Steel Head so he kept it. Max

Jeff,
A guy that is on the river in our area has 'Jacks Boat 23'. I guess that keeps it simple when you trade boats on a regular basis. Since I have been boating, only about 8 years, I have seen 20 through 23.

Obviously, he never followed the "4 foot rule": the next boat is 4 feet longer than the old one.
Jeff
PS: Our last boat was a 28 footer!

First boat was a cannoe with no name wich I still have. Second was a yellow 18ft trihull that came with the name The Yellow Submarine, did not change Third was a 21ft Searay with no name. After a few beers in the driveway tinkering and pondering thoughts for a name my oldest daughter yelled at me that I could not name it that. I asked her what and since she was and still is a big Michigan fan she said TIME OUT Chriss Webber calling time out with none left, that was the name.Third is the Marinette and it is NightMoves becouse we love to go out at night and see the lights from the city, sometimes it even moves at the dock in the night. The inflatble has no name and i may be called the dinge, and last is a 18 ft Searay that we are going to name The Little Boat

Still looking for a new name for my 28. Present name is of previous owner and his girlfriend! Kids are working on a name. In order to avoid the perils of renaming a boat I did an internet search for "renaming a boat". There are many great and funny protocols to pay homage to the god neptune and/or poseidon but the common ingredient is alcohol, preferably champaign and lots of it. Lots needed for the retiring the old name and a lot more needed for the new name. Whether you believe in the superstition or not, it is a great reason to have a party or two.

Back in the 80's worked for a company here in Jax, Fl told them need a few days off to run a boat over to the Bahamas, said fine GO AHEAD!! So we left, 9 months later we ended up in Venausela!! I did call them from the Turks & Cacois Islands ,when I found a phone, after I had been gone 30 days, ( I was wondering about my LAST PAYCHECK!!), Before they had a chance to say YOUR FIRED, I said, Just thought I'd call and tell you, I QUIT!!! Still mentioned I was FIRED and forget about YOUR COMMISSION CHECK!! OH Well!! Was laying in a hammock one afternoon drinking One of Norm's Breskies, when a girl walked up and told her friend, now talk about a SORRYDOG!! This guy came down here for a week, been here 9 MONTHS AND HASNT GONE HOME YET!!! From then on I HAVE BEEN "SORRYDOG" I had just bought a 50 ft. boat the week before I left on the trip and really didnt intend staying that long, but we just got to partying and IT WAS OUR TURN!! We did a good job!! We'd pull into an anchorage and hear people on the radio saying OH NOOOOO!! There goes the nieghborhood!!! PARTY TIME!!!! I was a lot younger back then!!! Left out of Dominican Republic with 40 cases of beer on board and 30 bottles of wine!! Hired horses and a buggy to take a pretty Canadian girl for a ride thru Samana, then paid an amigo to go ride up in the mountains and pick another one some pretty flowers. Chased a couple of Austrailian girls on a private yacht all across the Carribean from D. R. to St. Croix, St Thomas then Road Town in Tortola in the BVI"S, Got my hair dyed green in St Croix on St Pattys day and played Kenny Rogers riding with a Dolly Parton lookalike on on the back of a Cadilac in their local parade. I shoulda been called SKINNYDOG!!!! Lost 20 lbs chasen those wimmen, did catch um a few times!!!My buddy who wouldnt sell my boat in the states got on a plane, flew to St. Croix and FOUND ME!!downtown in a bar, with a ponytail, green hair and a ear ring in my ear!! He said HAVE YOU LOST YER FR--king Mind??? YOU NEED TO COME HOME!! We'll since I couldnt fit out the bathroom window at the local airport, plus the fact he put both his and my tickets on MY AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD!! I DID!! First thing I did do was paint SORRYDOG ON MY BOAT!! I threw out my Charlie Brown looking Christmas tree, didnt look green anymore and pondered my plight and thought about what a DUMBDOG I had been, NEAR BROKE and NO JOB!!! Drinking coffee on the rear deck of my boat and a guy walked up and said,WANNA BUY A BOAT IT'S SINKING AND YOU CAN HAVE IT REEEAAAL CHEEAAP! I bought it,saved it,then sold it and made $5000 a couple a days later!! The rest is HISTORY!!! Sorrydog (Almost forgot, Name of Dingy is DOGGY-STYLIN!!!!!

Well I may not be able to beat SorryDog's story but mine is named from the Jimmy Buffett Song... Gypsies in the Palace... Kind of a theme song of my life... "The Loyal Order of the Sleepless Knights" are the Hell raising Partiers that have been me and my friends for as long as anyone can remember. It doesnt hurt that I dont sleep like normal people either (2-3 maybe 4hrs a nite and not all in a row)
