I have seen more than a couple of radar antenna's mounted directly to the cockpit roof. On my BigM

that would put the radar antenna exactally at eye level. Since I have heard that microwave ovens are basically radar transmitters I opted to create a radar arch that would put the antenna over the heads of those standing on the weather deck.

Now my question is:
Does a modern day radar emit enought microwaves to cook the little gray cells residing behind the eyes? And if this is so, could it be the reason for our various afflictions?

That would depend on the age and make of the unit. The larger the unit the more radiation emitted. Check the installation manual, it should privide any requirements and warnings.

I went and found my JRC 2000 radar manual. It has a 25 mile phased antenna aray and the following was exerpted from its manual:

"When mounting the Radome to a platform attached to a fly bridge, or superstructure, avoid placing the Radome Unit at eye level. Although the radar transmits a 2.0 kW peak power the average power radiated is less than 0.5 W. Therefore, the hazard from RF radiation levels is virtually nonexistent beyond 2 feet
from the Radome Unit. However, due to the sensitivity of the human eye, it is recommended and prudent
to install the Radome in a plane above or below the passengers line-ofsight."
