Hot? What's that? This is the arctic. (though I do have some roses still blooming at home ) Wish I had some bikini babes running around, but more like fish slime and blood on the deck so I'm always in shoes trying not to get stuck with a fishhook. I also made a sliding roof over the aft deck while we were doing everything else. It retracts (I don't have a flybridge ) but never did slide it back all summer. Keeps some of the rain off and the sun out of my eyes. Next summer we'll have some sunny days and I'll slide it back and work on my suntan. You can see a little of it in the pics I put up about launching the boat. Tried to put a pic here and gave up--Ed

I had a Brother in law stationed in Sitka...didn't think you had "sun", and any bikini babes running around outside always had a shampoo bottle in their hands...you know that rain water is great for the hair. Although it gets colder in Michigan at least a rain coat is not part of our everyday dress. Heard you guys have figured out how to do everything in the rain...bon-fires, cook outs, graduation cerimonies. We all have our crosses to bear and 6 months of hard water is ours.

I hear that Michigan has only two seasons: too hot and too cold!
Ah-hah!

Born in Michigan and grew up in Alaska, so I know what you mean. Lived in the interior where we had two seasons, this winter and last winter. Worked a lot up north in Prudhoe Bay ( sleazy oil companies ) where not only -60, but windy. We said the wind didn't blow, It sucked!

I was listening to Parie Home Companion and they had a very talented Lady from up-north Alaska. She said that the weather reports gave you a "seconds to frost bite" report. Now that's cold!
Jeff,
you can come up after global warming kicks in and enjoy our weather. There isn't any day on the water that is too hot up here. Well maybe I should say on or slightly below the surface, either way I have no complaints about summers in up-north Michigan.

I note that this particular motor does NOT have a swivel elbow. Good!

well first and upmost for the new boating season here on LAKE NORMAN is to listen and thats LISTEN to the weather before leaving the slip even on a pretty day.
2, not get hit by Lightening again. HOPEFULLY
but now that that boat has been out of the water and back in now , we are actually finishing the inside, new carpet, new mattress's for the front birth and new upholstered seats going in...basically it has new wiring thur out the boat now, new stereo going in, new marine air 2008 model installed. quiet , wow, and low amperage when running....
3, then I want to takle the outsiee, painting the deck again, along with the stripe on the gunall.
4, keep the bilge clean....

Projects: -resolve low water flow in port engine. Just bought new Sherwood water pump from Marine Parts Source (they honored the web pricing which was cheaper than parts list) and got free strainer gaskets from Buck Algonquin (good guys, patronize them). If those fixes don't work, we are stymied. -Oh my, maybe it's time to inspect risers/manifolds. Should I book marina mechanic or install Jeff at Annapolis's finest hotel w/dinner? Or Deale's finest motel (you'll have to google that one)? Wait - Deale's "finest" has just been condemned. -Keep pressing to get the Navman fuel transducers working - it'll be season 3 and still zip performance. The Navman support folks in Acton, Mass were quite nice and sent me an upgraded chartplotter in an effort to track the problem. It was cheaper for them to do that, apparently, than troubleshoot. The transducers plug into the chartplotter. -pray for affordable fuel. -consider repairing peeling Awlgrip paint spots topsides.
