I had an upper helm steering cable go bad on a 1985 32' Sedan FB.

I called Teleflex and Uflex to try to get a replacement cable. The original OEM cable is no longer made.

The main problem was the mount and connection at the rudder. I liked Uflex inboard mount kit better.

The uflex 4 turns lock to lock the original was 3. I don’t think it will be noticeable difference.

You will have to replace the old cable mount at the rudder. Modify the FB to accept different helm mount.

Parts you will need for a cable replacement.

Uflex T71FC kit (measure length form your old cable) aprox cost $300
S55 90 degree rudder support adaptor $45
A75 Clevis adaptor $32
X34 Bezel (if it does not come with kit) I have an extra one $20

I reused my old steering wheel.

Any question please post. Sorry my helm is covered up and could not get any pics.

Nice work, but have you checked for electrical continuity with a voltmeter? I'll bet your rudders and the hull are now in a circuit. If so, you'll need to isolate the rod end bearing from the rudder arm with a nylon sleeve and flat washers.

Checked... No-continuity between the rudder and the hull. Notice the nylon ball pivot on the new cable assy.

I do not know how the old style insolates. I have the old mount only has one plastic washer, I must of lost one of the plastic washers.
