Tokk the top off the port engine with the help of a buddy of mine, an old mechanic. Engine looked
fine enternally. Think onen of the heads has a hairline crack notice the valve that looks cleaner than the others.

You're lucky there's no generator between those engines!

Suggest having the head magnafluxed to see if that's really a crack.

Generator is in the back of the truck, Had it forklifted out and is for sale. not putting it back in.
7.5 kw Kohler 4 cyl. gas engine. call 724-777-5588 for details.

Finally got it put back together and ran good for a few minutes on shore. Putting it in on Thur.
that's when the real test will take place. Hopefully no more water in the oil. What an experience!

Joel,
Last season, around Sept, I started getting oil in the water on the port engine. So I figured we better
fix it. Found an old mechanic from the by gone days to help me out. We took the heads off and sent them to a machine shop, had them cleaned, planed and magnafluxed. They were ok. Had the intake manifold
tested it was ok. Took the timing chain case off the front and checked, it was ok.
Put all new gaskets on, plugs and wires. Runs ok on the shore, the real test will be Thur. when she goes in the water, my fingers are crossed.

So....no "smoking gun"????
Went thru the same thing on our "best" engine, but after no evidence, got another remanufactured marine to replace the original that was 30 something years old. That was hard to get past "the bean counter". Good luck, and Cheers!

Put the boat in yesterday, fired up the port engine, water coming in. A freeze plug had popped out. Put it back in, all ok. Then the starboard engine, had to replace a raw water impeller, now all ok. Took it for a 30 min ride, checked oil, some foaming in the valve cover, but my buddy said it may have been from some of the water I didn't get out of the oil pan with a pump. Going to put some more time on it and change the oil again.
One last problem the aft bilge pump came on and now won't shut off, not even the swithces off, only if you cut the battery power off, any suggestions on nthat one..............more work to do today but at least the a/c worked and I can go to the dock and hide away.

Stan, Keep a close eye on the oil...water does not lubricate at all and it will destroy an engine pretty fast if there is still water in the oil. Check the dipstick constantly, if you see any milky/tan instead of fresh oil shut it down and change the oil ASAP. In previous engines that I have worked on with water contamination, it usually takes 2-3 complete oil/filter changes to clear out all the milky crap. I add 1/2 quart of TRANS FLUID in with the oil on the 1st or 2nd change. Trans fluid is VERY detergent and helps clean out all the crap while still lubricating with the oil. Remember...OIL is CHEAP compared to a new engine! As for the bilge pumps...mine are wired with the auto, manual, off switches but OFF does nothing!...as long as the batteries are on my bilge pumps will still work. Sounds like yours are wired the same as mine. If so it sounds like you have a bad float switch on the pump to me as the easiest thing or a wiring short to the auto side of the pump at the worst. Float switches arent very expensive, I would pick up another and try that first...if it works your done...if not you have a good spare.

Update on my head gasket job...........
Took the boat out yesterday and ran it for an hour, came back checked the oil..........all ok.
Then checked the oil filler cap.......no foaming, I think I got it. My buddy suggest more oil changes
The foaming from the intial launching could have been from what I couldn't get pumped out of the oil pan.
Fingers crossed and very excited.

Another update..................................
After many headaches and wallet pains, I think the oil and water problem has been fixed.
Took the boat out yesterday and ran it hard, around 3800 rpms for about 10 miles, stopped a couple of times to check the oil ..........no foaming (yee ha ). The heads were checked and reworked, we doubled the intake manifold gasket, tore the top end off twice and refit the gaskets,so last week after a test run
and still oil in the water, we docked and took the exhaust manifolds off again. It was a bright sunny day and at the angle the manifold was setting you could see a rust streak in the center port, we plugged up manifold and run water into the the hose end of the manifold and low and behold air bubbles and water started appearing, found the problem. Bought two new OSKO manifolds, put them on.
I set and wonder that maybe I should have the manifolds checked first, it may have saved me some time and money. Live and learn, why do I always take the hard road and not the easy one?
