I assume those monstrous aluminum pontoon boats you see on the inland lakes don't encounter the marine growth and slime buildup we see on the coastal waters. Even if I ran my boat once a week there would be a forest of barnacle bastards going along for free ride.

Jeff,

So when are U going to stop mistreating the “Mistic” move her up here to the Great Lakes pristine waters or put her in one of them clean fresh water lakes down South & warm them weary ole arthritic bones of yours so she can have a clean bottom. Think Whistle

Bob,

On the bare bottom issue......

As I can recall the Capt said he had both boats the first one a 38' the one in the pic is a 48' built down in Tenn. to his spec’s the power plants where twin 350 hp Crusader’s with Volvo out drives can’t recall who the builder was even though he told me the builders name. After registering them in Tenn. he than brought it up here to MI. & cruises the Great Lakes both in American & Canadian waters Than winters in the South. It’s as well built as a Big M but I still like my Big M better, that’s probably cause I’m prejudice, & secondly I couldn’t afford the thing.
May be one of them boys down in Tenn. might know who the builder is, they must have a big operation to build a vessel of that size.

Let me know when those two weeks of ice free boating occur in your area and I'll come up there and boat.

We used to live near Paducah, and I gotta tell you, that Kentucky/ Barclay Lake area is super! Almost as nice as our Chesapeake Bay! (Just kidding. Don't want to start another lengthy "My place is better than your place!" discussion.)

I would not try to fix this myself if I had any doubts. Spend the money and call in Paul Fleury (the goto guy and in this area).
Paul Fleury's last number is (301)292-0840.

Here is some stuff by time

Jeff,

I’ll give U a heads up now the ice usually opens up about the end of June & starts glazing over
again about the 3rd wk. in July so when can I expect to see U up here in the frozen tundra & take
U on a cruise adventure up on the F/B of the Great Lakes, after that U’ll forsake the week or so
of extra boating time U get on the Cheesy [sp] ? Sick
But than again if U take it to stay up north I’m not sure MI. could handle two hard headed Capt.
as U & I Whistle

Joel,

U have excellent eyesight I’ve never got past those tasty loooooking lobsters myself but the next
time I see her I’ll ask it appears to be a pearl but my eyes are failing me & keep drifting back at
the luscious lobsters

Joe Howard is correct. Fleury has a sterling reputation in the corrosion prevention field in Maryland/Virginia. He's been at it for quite a while, knows Marinettes well but now may be retired. I've met him (and he installed the genset on my boat for the orig owner). He can, however, get highly technical in conversation - make sure he knows you will need him to speak English.

Well, upon inspection it turns out the previous owner installed bronze rudder and strut bearings. Also there is no isolation between the tranny and engine shafts. So, I have ordered them from John A. The strut brg was a genuine SOB to get out and I expect no less from the rudder. But the good news is that hopefully, we have caught this in time. I plan to soda blast her from head to toe prior to the spring and we will see if the dammage is bad. Hopefully, it will not be and we will get her back in the water.
Anyway, THANKS TO YOU ALL for the continued support and help. Merry Christmas and Happy and safe boating new year.

Bob
