The tag on the Slip Chaser has the number as 65E31296_195. The digit for the underscore could be a 3, 5 or the letter S. Anyone interpret these numbers? I still am not sure what length Fisherman it is.

According to this site http://boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm your boat is a 1995

The missing digit would be the month.

However the 65E Mic code doesn't seem to be correct. It should be ALC. Also a 1995 would be pretty rare.

Where exactly are you getting this number from?

The tag is on the outside wall of the head as you decend the ladder into the cabin. It appears to be a factory tag as it lists the Aluminum Cruiser Co. and where it was in Louisville. I will get a pic tomorrow and post it. According to the PO and the registration, it is a 1965 Marinette Fisherman.

Here is a description of the numbers/letters. This info came from John Althouse at Marinette.com

On the later model boats (mid 70's) and later, the code is as follows:

Example ALC2S701G889

ALC (Aluminum Cruisers - Builder Code)

2 (32 foot, 8 for 28, 9 for 39, 7 for 37, 1 for 41)

S (Sedan, F for fisherman, D for double(aft cabin), E for express)

701 (hull #)

G8 (month and year the boat was started (July 1988)

89 (year the boat was complete 1989)

Prior to the HIN being put on the transom rub rail, the hull number was just a serial number on a plate on the back side of the closet door. I do not know that the numbers had any specific meaning.

Jim,

If I remember correctly not to long ago some one on this site said they had the official BigM blank tags for sale on E-Bay & as I recollect they weren’t all that costly.May be if the one who posted that might remember what that item was listed under ? Think Or if U R good at searching stuff out on E Bay U may be able to locate them ? Anxious Than when U get the #s all figured out U could etch them on the new tag Applause

Okay, am I the only one that thinks this is a really unusual problem? Has anyone else owned anything that outlasted its serial number plate?

Time will tell, but I'd bet serious scratch that 40 years from now a legible serial number tag will be all that's left of most of the plastic toys in our marinas. Then again, I probably won't be around to collect on the bet.

Hanging on till spring.
