So far I have not found where to connect the cable from the dock. The fuse box is located on the port wall under the dinette seat. There is three pieces of romex(two on one side, one on the other) connected to said box. I assume(yeah, I know....) that the single one is the input. Can't get my hand in the hole far enough to tell if the cables go forward or aft. I have seen pics of shore power connected at the helm(see pic) but there is no sign of AC wiring behind those panels. The other hole is in the stern but no wiring visable back there. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I need to find the front end of the wiring to know where to install a receptical for the shore power cable.

Slip Chaser is a '65, 31' Fisherman, tag # 65E 31396S195(I'm still not positive about the "S" and I'm guessing about the "31'".

Jim, The hole in the stern is for your stern light. You will need to run 12v wiring for that. I don't know where your power conection was in 61 but it should be near the box. somewhere on the port side. Could be someone has covered it up over the years. I would just start over & run new wiring, newbox & conections. What is that body of water at Gainsville called? Wayne

Jim,

Perhaps you should just decide where you want the shore power cable to plug in, and wire in new to the AC panel. Mine is portside in the cockpit, but you might prefer someplace at the aft of the cockpit so you don't have the shore cable underfoot. My '75 32' is all wired in romex from the factory, but I would use three-conductor 12 awg marine cable for any new stuff. You can often get it cheap from skycraft surplus in orlando. Let me know if you can't find anything you can use. I would dip the wire ends in solder before terminating, because most of the AC stuff is designed to work with solid wire.

I have some diagrams of generic ac wiring and also of the way I am doing my boat on my website at www.geocities.com/dougmrose

Fastjeff's Law: Wherever the AC plug is on your boat, it'll be in the wrong place when you change slips! Never fails. Ours is tie-wrapped along the length of the boat to the shore plug, which is...you know.

Looks like that stern light fixture will have to be replaced. Good news is that they are not very expensive and continue to be available in the same style as yours. Find one that will accept an LED bulb - they will last forever. As I think of it, I have seen recently LED bulbs in the "festoon" style that fixture will require.

The one problem I have noticed with LEDs and with CF lights is early life failure. Both are susceptible to failure in the electronics that control the bulb part. So keep an incandescent spare handy.

Attached is a pic of the fusebox - my "assume" in my first post turned out to be like all the rest of them as the input wire is the bottom one of the two on the left side of the box. Still looking for the other end of it....

The Slip Chaser is at Defeated Creek Marina on the Cumberland River above the Cordell Hull dam at Carthage, TN. I live at Gainesboro about 15mi. upriver.

Boat is on the trailer and slightly uphill, so I crashed on the starboard bunk with my head uphill for a short nap. When my eyes opened, the first thing I saw is in the attached pics. Now I can put things back together. You will never believe how many people have helped me search for that connector!

My first reaction is that it is a weird place for AC connection. But then again, it's a boat and it does make a sort of sense because the place is protected by the overhang. But wasn't there a more obvious overhang those builders could have found? Perhaps, under the cabin roof outside?

Add me to the long list of people who wouldn't have thought to look there!

I'll be.....I just looked at another pic of similar year and sure enough the outlet is in the same place.
I had thought that was some after market setup but I guess not.

Never would have looked there.

.."Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to take a nap!"

Agreed. All three of my semi-good ideas came to me while I was sleeping.
