Has any one replaced there trim tab switch?

My flybridge switch has seen too much weather and no longer works. I would like to fill the hole with a similar switch.

I replaced my joystick like toggles with the dual black rockers. I got from Boaters World.
It looks like they only have the "Euro" style rockers. Maybe give them a call and they may be able to order the traditional rockers.

Better do it quickly..or wait for the fire sale. The parent company of Boaters World is Ritz Camera which has filed for bankruptcy protection (Chapter 11, I think) so it can re-organize. According to the Washington Post this morning, they will scuttle BW. Bids are out to liquidators. If you live near one, there may be some bargains if you shop wisely.

Ooh. Did not know that. There is one somewhat near me. Have to see what they have.

By the way, if you have dual stations Bennet makes a device that plugs into the existing trim tab harness at the transom that allows only 1 station to be use at a time. From what I was told if 2 people work the switches at both station at the same time you can possibly do damage or blow fuse(s). I don't know since it has never happened but we did put one of those devices inline. It looks like a little cube filled with epoxy with some wires hanging out.

I hated that stock toggle switch so much I replaced it with a pair of toggle switches from Radio Shack. THey are momentary, double throw type. Never regretted it.

Jeff has an enclosed helm. For use on the flybridge, you might try something like:

https://www.alliedelec.c...6421156&DESC=2NT1-7

which is a sealed switch designed for industrial use. It's $20 in DPDT (ON)-OFF-(ON) configuration, from alliedelec.

Personally, I like the looks of the toggle handle, it fits the Marinette. The same switch is available as a rocker if you prefer that look.

On the flybridge a panel seal between panel and toggle handle looks right, such as:

https://www.alliedelec.c...7600225&DESC=N1030B

which adds another $4 or so to each switch.

Hey am I missing something here on these trim tab switches Think Aren’t the trim tabs switches suppose to be a 6 way switch ? Anxious So the boat can be corrected for list & yawl also do to weight distribution & weather conditions ? The way I see it U’d need two of them On / Off / On switches than a lot of playing around to get them to get the vessel on an even keel Eh? Just wondering not criticizing Whistle

Those are the ones. The breaker switch is the OFF/ ON switch for mine, probably yours as well.

I occasionally forget to turn the trim tabs on and stupidly wonder why the trim isn't being effected--I'm working hell out of the switches and northing's happening! Must be low on oil, or... Doh! Did that while running downwind in some of the roughest weather we encountered in the big M. Man, was really ticked at myself when I found out the breaker was off.

Norm,

I believe you need two toggle-type switches to replace the joystick-style that came with Marinettes. Normally they mount side-by-side, with the toggles moving vertically.

The port toggle switch runs the port trim tab, and the starboard toggle runs the starboard trim tab, raising the tab when the toggle is raised and lowering the tab when the toggle is depressed.

This way, pushing both switches down lowers the bow, but pushing the starboard switch down raises the starboard side. This is what I am used to, and it works for me - many commercial boats are wired this way.

I have a breaker for the trim tab pump on my accessory (eyebrow) panel, and it wires directly to the pump back at the transom. There is a 6-wire (I think) cable that runs to the switches from the pump.

I have not documented the wiring because the Bennett manual is very good, but would be happy to add it if anyone would like to see it....
