I think I need to replace the ignition switches - I'm chasing down a ghost from the last season I was in (2 years ago). When I bypassed the switch, straight from the battery to the coil, the problem seemed to vanish.

Anyway, there are few options for our setup. Not sure I like the current switch style, with it's lack of a boot. I could go to a key switch style, but it would involve drilling a bigger hole, and I haven't checked for clearances yet.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

John

 John,

Have U checked & cleaned the ign. fuse & holder for corrosion ? Think I ran into same synopsis some time back there was rust at the bottom of fuse holder plus spring was deteriorated & the cause of the rust. Also might want to check out the purple (violet) wire connections. Anxious

By wiring straight to the coil, you were also bypassing the ballast resistor, so don't rule that out as a culprit yet....

Anyone have a source for that ignition fuse deal (that is next to the ignition switch)? It appears that the fuse and the black plastic cap do not separate. At least, I couldn't get mine apart without breaking it.

Those screw cap panel mount fuse holders with spade connections are a pretty common item. An old school autoparts store should have them. Maybe not the new style chinese only autoparts store. A parts outfit that carries truck or RV stuff should also carry them. You can pull the wires through and attach a regular inline holder temporarily. If you are a yooper you are allowed to keep it like that forever.

Ok - I lied. I wired from the battery to the resistor, so as to not leave it out of the circuit.

I do plan on checking those fuse holders, though. I wonder if they can be replaced with pop-out breakers and a screw in boot?
