Screaming along a 4 knots! Wheee! (And needing no gas, starting up, tuning...Hummm... Maybe you got something there.)

"My" design is actually a development from a 1950s Mechanics Illustrated design for a "Yellow Jacket" hydro. Built the first one half a century ago, then modified the design several times as I built others. The latest is the best, but even it has been modified twice now. The latest modification is a longitudinal "Dillion" step. Yet to see what it will do.

I had a 12' inflatable with a 25 horse Mercury and it carried a pretty good load and planed off nicely, but I don't have your rapport with engines and I could never keep the thing running. That and the fact that it had to be deflated to be put on deck caused me to sell it to a Bahamian for $300. The motor lost the gears in the foot, and replacements were going to be $1000, so I just chucked it all.

The dink serves mostly as entertainment, anyway, and learning to sail is good for kids...

If you are the Doug Rose you helped me with paint info last fall, I have been trying to contact you. Regarding AC, mine in 16,750 BTU and was mounted under the long starboard bench in the dinette. I have been re-working the system since installation with the advice of a sharp AC man. There are figues that show the amount of intake area and vent area necessary for good air flow. I need about a 12X12 intake and lots of 4 inch round grills with adjustable disfusers. A third was opening was added to the plenum. One line runs to the V-berth with a Y to the outside forward wall of the dinette above the top of the seat back. A 3" line runs to the head. Another line runs thru the engine compartment, which is a bad no-no, to the far back port corner not too far above the floor. and one line leads to the helm station on the aisle side. I tried to figure out how to run a line to the starboard side but no go. I would like to add one more line under the steering wheel. I've converted to insulated flex peipe where possible and am told a key is to have no sags which restrict flow. I did run a hard pipe with insulation to the head where I could. Another key I would consider is mounting the unit with as much vibration and sound control as possible.

Far as I know, I am the only Doug Rose on this forum. I am contactable through the forum, don't want to post my email for obvious reasons...

Your experience with A/C far exceeds mine. Perhaps you could post a few photos showing the solutions you have found for some of the thornier problems. It sounds like you have very good distribution of cold air.

My guess was, after using a couple of smaller units, that the 32' needs 16,000 btus. How does this perform for you? Perhaps you could provide some data, in the form of outside temp, sun load, inside temp, and percentage of "on" time. That would help other members scale their units appropriately.

If I put in a permanent unit, I would like to use separate condenser and evaporator, so the noisy part can be in the engine room. Since I have 6-cylinder engines, I have room outboard of the engines to put stuff. Still don't have the money, tho.
