When scraping, I discovered two holes in the bottom of the hull, and cannot figure what they are for. in the area around the head/bulkhead, but cannot locate them inside the hull, seem to be somewhere just in front of the engines... Big one about 3/4" I would guess, and the small one about the size of a pencil...

Newer through hull depth transducers are usually 1 5/8" or 2" and are in front of the engines. There was an old transducer that was shaped like a wedge and stuck out a couple of inches. Maybe thats it. I assume there are no valves inside the hull just plugs. They might have been inlets for a seawater deck wash down, A/C, Genset or toilet. If you can't use them just make sure they are plugged good. Ask about the good old two aluminum disks and a ss bolt trick. Wow somebody's boat needs a bottom job.

Big one looks like it might be original water intake for the head. Shine a light under the head and see if it's connected with a hose. -- Ed

Yes it does need a bottom job (see "I hate barnacles" thread). What you see in the pics is actually the barrier coat with the red antifoul over it. Oddly enough it looks like corroded aluminum in pictures.

I was unable to locate the holes inside the boat. How do I look under the head??? I think it has been upgraded as it has a full fiberglass floor, and no holding tank "in" the head (still haven't located it). I was thinking the one in the head be an intake for the head, but am totally puzzled by the smaller one...

That big 'un wouldn't be the drain, would it?

Shane,

Here’s a idea that I’ve used from time to time it takes two but have someone take a hammer & tap right at the hole the sound will get U near the area then feel for the vibration of the taps unless the area is under some place U can’t get at U should be able to find it. It shouldn’t be if there’s a hose, valve etc. are connected to it ? As one of the member stated in a thread above I’d also venture to say it’s the head in take.? That small hole is a puzzler no idea what that one would be there or used for AnyWho it may be worth a try. Think

Shane, i see the motor raw water inlet in the background.about where these holes are is where my head plumbing is the one close to the center of the boat is water inlet for flushing the toilet and the one closer the the side of the boat in the outlet from the mersurader pump.my head has the fiberglass floor too.look beside the toilet and there should be two pipes coming up through the floor one on each side.we are planning to go put in the water heater this weekend will try take some pics.i have not seen the bottom of my boat much so i don't know the size of the holes but the pipes are about 3/4 or 1 inch.

Holes without seacocks scare me.... I will try and take a look this weekend. I guess if your '72 has the fiberglass floor, then maybe mine is original. Just thought that the 70's 32s had the above floor holding tank (where is your holding tank?)

shane,

the pipes reach above water level and have no valves .the only time i have taken on water through them is when we put in the engine .i had the inlet line off from winterizing and the new engine and all parts on the side with the engine still in and the old engine out of the other side .so nothing on one side . two engines and 5 people on the head side heard water running in the belge from the shower drain.yes it was scary but sliding the hose to the toilet back on stopped it.take up the axcess panel in the floor outside the head i think there is a hole in the beam under the door you can see through, and you will see the pipes and hose for shower drain from the fiberglass floor through to the engine room.

my waste tank is in the hanging locker in front of the head .i'm not sure if it is the original location.it's only about 15 gals .it's not big enough for us.two couples have a fews cold one will fill if up in 3 days even with the men going over the side at night.if i get the right tank i think i can fit a 30 gal in there with the stereo and amps but it has to be a thick tank that can be mounted long side vertical.

Shane, My 32 express has that hole/ pipe capped off in the head. It was for raw discharge before the law changed, since updated with holding tank that is in front of the rudders. The other hole is for water intake for tolet. my 2 cents. Wayne
