You should definitely replace the breakers. If it is like my '75 32', then you have toggle breakers that work thermally. This is OK for wire protection, since it takes a lot of current to actually heat up and burn your wires, but they give poor load protection, since they will allow double the rated current or even more without opening immediately.

I replaced mine with Airpax AP/MIL breakers, about the best I know of. I put a great many of them into aircraft of all types, including the Shuttle, and they are the best I know of. The $140 each for the civilian version might be a problem, though. I got mine surplus at Skycraft in Orlando for around $7 each.

The Airpax Snapak line is pretty good and has been used by other forumistas, but it has a plastic toggle that just looks wrong to me.

I would recommend Airpax IALN-1-1-52-20.0

These are sealed toggle (fits Marinette) single-pole DC long delay 20 Amperes nominal open. You can use short delay if you wish, "51" instead of "52".

For the AC panel, I recommend Airpax IALN-1-1-62-20.0

These are not easy to find. They show up on ebay every now and then, and many commercial electronics sources can get them. If I remember correctly, they can be had for around $15. I always get stuff surplus.

We made a long informative thread titled "Airpax Breaker Switches" well worth reading. Here is the catalog link:

If it is the same as mine it is the same as a house with the romax wire. The breakers work and the wire in mine was ok so I left it alone

Doug, didn't find a web site for the Orlando store. But found a phone number:
Skycraft Parts & Surplus Wrhse (407) 422-8514

Also found another one:

Skycraft Parts & Surplus
2245 West Fairbanks Ave.
Winter Park, FL 32789

found these on their web site.

You found the right Skycraft. Winter Park is really part of Orlando.

They have a large store, stuff in bins, often unsorted. They only list stuff on the website if they have a lot of a particular item. You really have to go there to get odd stuff, but it is well worth the trip.

I was just in Florida for three weeks, but didn't make it over to Skycraft. Maybe next trip.

I have a lot of the breakers, maybe a hundred or so, but very few if any in the treasured 20 Amp size. When these are used in vehicles, the breaker is the load breaker, sized for whatever it turns on, not for the wire. So I have many in 3 Amp, 5 Amp, 8 Amp, you get the idea. I have used smaller breakers for nav lights, anchor light, and so forth since these loads never need 20 A, but I still wire everything with 14 awg wire. On a flight vehicle, the wire size would be matched to the breaker to save a few ounces....
