Well, I remember that one of the profs in college taught Plate Tectonics to his students, and was nearly ejected from the university for not adhering to established science. Since, I have seen a Nobel prize in physics granted for disproving what another physicist got the prize for discovering. And, I am aware that issues like Global Warming are decided on the weight of the evidence, lacking real proof. Only guys who work in the field have any kind of handle on it.

Only peer-reviewed work is worth anything. Academics are a throat-cutting lot, and if a guy's work is good enough to get the nod from his rivals it is probably pretty good. My understanding is that the overwhelming majority of peer-reviewed analysis shows a link between rising CO2 levels and rising temperature. If it isn't so, the weight of evidence will prevail, eventually. But, I don't understand any of the stuff myself.

Mankind has always changed his environment. Because of that, I am going to hop into my '94 Mustang Cobra Convertible 'Global Warmer' and shoot over to Giant for some steaks, rather than hacking my way through the underbrush and looking under rocks for stuff to eat.

Never thought my little observation would get so many responses.

Here is the Detroit News article Docsnow referred to.
http://www.detnews.com/a...0080107/METRO/801070366

'Makes me down right defensive.

I remember the record low levels of 1964, I spent a lot of time walking the shore of Lake Huron with a fishing pole, we are there now. Unless we get a lot more snow and rain, I'm picking out some shallow shoals and laying claim to them. I will have my own island before I die! Then I need to ask Al what kind of palm tree's should I be planting.

Seriously, would not a logical result of ice cap melting be more clouds? And aren't clouds a real good insulator?

Ice cores. As water freezes it traps tiny bubbles of the atmosphere and preserves the chemistry. Ice cores obtained at the south pole, north pole and Greenland reveal data from tens of thousands of years (long before man was capable of affecting the environment). When correlated with tree rings (revealing just a few hundred years) the data show a natural fluctuation in temperature, rainfall and carbon dioxide levels. The greatest factor influencing average planet temperatures is not CO levels, but ocean currents. If these ocean currents alter course (similar to the jet stream on a weather map) and arc farther north or south, the temperature of the water fluctuates and the ice ebbs or flows. We only recently discovered this phenominon when a cargo ship sank in the Pacific. Part of its cargo (yellow rubber duckies, I kid you not) spread out and were carried by the ocean currents and tracked for years by several groups. Research scientists live or die on their funding. Funding usually only buys the results the funders want. Now I'm depressed.

.."Have you seen the movie An Inconvenient Truth? (www.climatecrisis.net)

No "scientists" were involved in that movie--just scam artists like Evil Al. That movie is such BS it is not allowed to be shown to students in England without a disclaimer that follows it--and that's in liberal England! Real scientists with the courage to speak out have noted dozens of half truths, blatant exaggerations, and outright lies in that movie (like deliberately multiplying the expected ocean rise by TEN). So why did it receive all those awards? They came from people who hate America whether they will admit it or not--especially those Nobel snobs. THese same AMerica hating morons rewarded that rat Carter the Traitor with an award after he trashed the USA in Europe.

It's them or us, guys. Take your pick.

Dennis,

To reply to your ?
Why would scientists make this stuff up?

To put it simply these scientific studies & scientists will publish what ever the funding party wants them to release, reason being for future monies for some hair brain idea. Liar
A example is the latest Nobel prize award winner & Hollyweirds Oscar Award for best documentary, yet that man wouldn’t know if he was standing in a rain storm. The award he should had received in my opinion would of been for being the lead Lemming. Another cover up in the Great Lakes is the zebra mussel they blame it on the foreign freighters bulltwinky they where brought in to clean up Lake Erie’s cyst pool of the 60's another government blunder along with the Asian lady bug, or the newest invasion of the flying silverhead carp etc. etc.. The communist cold war propaganda can’t hold a candle to our own governments BS. Liar

Now to get back on track...

I have received and e-mail from an aquaintenance, an adopted UP'er. He said that last year Lake Superior fell 2' and went on to say that this winter they raised the gates, I assume he means the gates at the hydro-electric operation there, and now the water is back up 2' this winter. So if you want to trailer your boat to Superior and stand a chance of launching it safely, do it in the winter.

Problem solved

I am not an eco-nut...BUT.... I think Lake Michigan and Huron is running out the St. Clair river. Our Michigan gerrymandering earmarkers have no talent and can't get the billions needed to plug it. Just like they can't keep southern legislators from colluding with Toyota to move our auto industry south and put us in a depression. Docsnow write this down. YOU CAN'T DRINK LAKE MICHIGAN DRY. That bottling water stuff is pure misdirection designed to confuse us. I do think that you have to tax most of our current packaging out of existance. Packing all those drinks and WalMart crap in plastic and then burying it is nuts. You need to use cardboard and burn it for the extra power. When I lived in Maryland I didn't mind trash because they burned everything they couldn't recycle. Up here in Michigan, not only are we not burning trash, we are burying Canada's. I guess Canada does not have enough room to bury their own trash. Think about this. Why do we buy milk which has a shelf life of less than a month in plastic bottles which will last hundreds of years?. What was wrong with waxed cardboard. As to Global Warming .. BRING IT ON.. I'm freezing up here. It's been below freezing for weeks. I wish man was causing it so we could speed it up, but that's dreaming. We are riding the earth like fleas ride a dog. WE AIN'T DRIVING. We are basically just trying to have a little fun until the next big meteor hit. End of Rant. By the way any of you Tennesee boaters know of any good places for my Big M. This winter is getting to me. Brick wall

Got yer head on straight, Wooden Boat!

Saw a dopey Global Warming BS show last night in which the "scientist" made a statement to "prove" Global Warming: The number of polar bears on a certain island is diminishing. Wow! That was his "concrete" evidence! (Clue: They migrated elsewhere, you moron!)

dont be too hard on the scientists.......ive heard more then once that they have their federal funding threatenend if they dont jump on the bandwagon.......sad truth is 200 years from now, they are all going to be laughed at and ridiculed...for being stupid.....i believe the ones who are brave(or crazy) enough to speak the truth about whats going on(and subsequently prove it beyond a doubt) will be the newtons of the next mellinia(?)

and for all the a-holes out there hyping water shortages......where the hell do you think it goes ??? nature takes care of that recycling process, hopefully we will never figure out a way to screw it up.....

nature is brilliant.....its people that are stupid....

if you move 100,000,000 people into an area that has enough water for 10,000,000.....THATS NOT A SHORTAGE !!!!....THAT IS STUPID GREEDY MAN AT HIS FINEST

the end is near folks !....whats the old saying, were dominant because of opossable thumbs, and the ability to adapt to nature......well, thumbs are still working pretty good in most cases, so what happened to our ability to adapt......are we just getting that lazy, or arragent ?

ok, my rant is over, i feel much better now
