Can I use Magnesium race wheels as sacrificial metal around my dock?

I can buy a couple of magnesium race wheels that are bent up for about $100.00. Would these help prevent electrolisis from occuring in my dock? Thinking about submerging a wheel at each corner of the dock. :) As I see it they would be out of sight, out of mind. Just some wheels tied on with line to the bottom of the docks. 37' Sedan Twin Cat 3208s!

In most cases, "mag wheels" are not made of magnesium, but mainly aluminum alloys. Sorry, Jeff "...reality is not nearly as lovely as the world of Liberal Land. No wonder so many people want to go there." - Tom Sowell

They might prevent corrosion of the dock but not your boat. A sacrificial anode must be connected electrically to the metal you are trying to preserve. Peter 1981 32' sedan bridge twin Chrysler 360 cu. in. 250 hp engines Raw water cooled Nimbus II Home port: New Buffalo, MI

So if he connected them to the boat they would work? Just like a guppy. If so, aren't guppies much cheaper than mag wheels? Joel Albert, Potomac MD "Charlie B" - 1988 32' FBS Twin 318's/FWC/16x15 nibral props docked Deale, MD
