Well, it's down at last. Came out reasonably well. I found a few more soft wood spots and replaced them before screwing the deck down.

Arghhh, that be the weather deck matey. The cockpit be where they keep the head, me thinks...or maybe the Admiral holds the keys to that locker. Arghhh.... At least it sounds good.Whistle

I see you placed the SS edge trim under the aluminum instead of on top like the plyboard had.

I almost have my holding tank project done. Took your advise, I think, and put a piece of 1/8" plate on top of my bottom two supports to spread the tanks weight out. I saw no need to do that on the upper two supports and just used the 3/8" hose to protect the tank there. Have had an ex-millwright buddy helping and he welded the forward edge of those lower supports together so they can support each other. Kinda like this forum. A couple of brackets aft of the tank with some angle on top of the front edge, finished off with a couple of automotive gas tank straps as hold downs will keep it from shifting. Pictures will be coming after the Holiday.

Anxious to see how it turned out, Matey!

Jeff

PS: The "stainless strips" are actually 1/8 thick aluminum screwed and sealed to the deck to provide a dam. Water on the deck has to be over that deep to slip over tghe dam and into the bilge.

Ah, I was planning on glueing some neoprene to the underside of my SS edging but then I will need to put some under the hing as well to keep the height the same. Was a little worried that someone might stub a toe or worse...tear a drysuit on it.

..."You did what the factory should have. "

You said it! What the heck were they thinking? The doomed to rot cockpit deck and the Black Crap are Marinette's two biggest mistakes. That tiny holding tank deal under the toilet comes in third.

The 4 separate switches and breakers for each bilge pump are my candidate for 4th.

From a safety point of view, if one fuse for 4 pumps, why have 4 pumps? If one bad pump blows the fuse no pumps will have power. 4 pumps is a bit much, I am going comercial and only need 3, one of which needs to be connected to an always hot float switch.

Too true! I ripped out all but one switch for the bilge pumps and one breaker--and I put the bilge pumps on the house battery side--three batteries on line vs. one. Much smarter.

Just ran across this - anybody looked at this stuff for a cockpit deck. They even have a non-skid version of it.

Is Dri Deck actually Dri Dek, the open grid plastic? If so, it has no structural rating, it is meant to sit on an existing deck and keep your feet above the water (or whatever) on the floor surface.

I don't know about the SD Plastics material, it looks like all the other PVC products out there and I don't know of any that can take any weight to speak of without bending. I'm not an engineer, so their ASTM tests threw me a bit, but I'd ask if it's rated for decking and at what span for which thickness.

Along with being no engineer, I cannot figure out how to get photos onto this site. If I can get my brain around it (yes, I've read the various instructions), I'll send some I had promised of our deck project. No comparison to that aluminum jewel we just saw come together, but marine ply, wider Nautilex, PVC 'baseboard'.

Dri Dek Deck Dreck. pardon the sarcasm...but I have used it and found it created too many maintenance headaches. It is well made, the one foot square flexible vinyl pieces snap together nicely, and Dri Dek makes a nice edging piece to finish off the rectangle you create. It comes in a variety of colors. BUT...big BUT...the little feet that support the decking and allow water to drain away also trap dirt.

To flush that dirt, one must lift the Dri Dek. I don't need yet another maintenance chore. I had used it on the flybridge floor and had to really scrub the trapped dirt & mildew that formed. It doesn't clean up easily, must be scrubbed with a bristle brush and you can't get into every nook and cranny. People who have a cleaning obsession may enjoy it, however.

Now, the floor is bare (non-skid paint) and since we don't have a herd of elephants traipsing up there, the paint doesn't wear and a hosing keeps the deck clean during the season.

Oh, the stuff is very expensive. If you don't catch a sale it has usually been priced at nearly $5/sq ft. If you must have it, I have a bunch in Marinette maroon and white in my garage for which you can make me an offer.
