Has anyone that has replaced the rear deck, changed or replaced the scupper drains.

The scupper drain that was in my rear deck looks like a hardware store type shower drain. That has a flange fitting with a 1 1/2" drain pipe with 1 1/2" hose clamped on.

I found some in hamilton marine that looks like a better disign. But $$$

Any suggesions?

When shopping for scuppers last year to replace the kitchen sink drains from the last owner I discovered that there is apparently no such thing as a reasonably priced scupper. We installed a couple really nice, oval scuppers after routing the new plywood to allow them to sit flush after installing the new Nautalex. Once I saw the photos of the new aluminum cockpit deck in the forum recently, I scurried off into a dark corner and never sent photos of the deck we did last year. See below:

DO you think a kitchen or bathroom (think shower drain) would work. Whatever you get, go for stainless steel or plastic not the crappy pot metal support/tail piece that Marinette supplied.

I agree with Joel here. When we first bought our boat we were on the Potomac. The next dock over from us was covered and the geese loved the lawn while the gulls loved the roof on the covered dock. One or two feathers would plug those stupid sink drains and we'd have a soaking wet cockpit. While we all try to save money where we can, genuine marine parts are genuine marine parts - developed from lots of experience and made with materials meant to take the weather.

I remember how pleased the seller was that he had saved a few bucks with those sink drains - I wasn't thinking that last summer when we were replacing the deck. Nice guy, but too many NAPA and Home Depot parts...

Okay, I'm off the the boat, I'll investigate the transmission issue and report back in - Happy Memorial Day weekend.

Jim..I think I was trying to make an opposite point. I checked sink drains @ Home Depot ystdy and found several that I would put on my boat if that were to become necessary. Stainless is excellent. For me, plastic is even better. I don't think that in all things nautical, one must go to the boat store. Just some of them (like engine stuff).

I found a low cost marine product made by Perko.

http://www.discountmarin..._COCKPIT_SCUPPERS-.html

They are under $12 plus shipping.

I have a pair on order. I will keep the forum updated on what I think of them.

Scuppers

Hi Bob
I put a pair of these in my new cockpit floor about two years ago. I replaced the old Natallux and rooting wood floor With "3/4" PLASTEC tongue and groove". I am really pleased with there performance.
Thanks for the web site info, I had missed placed the information, I will save it to my favorites.
Thanks again.
Bill

Naturally, I found some good ones that were cheap: Under 15 bucks for a pair of them. And they are stainless (not plastic. Uugh!) Got them at a resturant supply place. "Wet bar drains," they called them.

Note: That giant thread on the bottom of the drain--which is much larger than the hose--threw me too at first. (You can see it in the photo above.) That thread is used to attach a short length of metal tube that IS the correct size for the hose. Look under the sink in your kitchen and you'll a similar set up, but here the tube (PVC usually) is piped to the septic system.

Jeff

PS: I can buy a few of these things and ship them if anyone needs them. Let me know.
