If you have "mysterious" issues now and then when you hit the starter, then here's what the culprit may be--the ignition system fuse that's right beside the the ignition switch

Here's what that it looks like. Note that the fuse is corroded into the cap--it won't come out in one piece. The required 10 amp fuse is shown below. (Guess how great a circuit that was making!) West Marine # 132060 five bucks for the entire new assembly. (Thanks John S.)

Jeff

PS: It's dog to remove the entire assembly, requiring a deep 11/16 socket. I replaced just the cap on one side, installing just a new fuse on the other side, and lubing everything with electrolytic grease.

Knock on wood...

I've got a 3 hour and (2) 30 minute cruises under my belt, with the new fuses, and no issues!!! :)

If you didn't replace the holder, Jeff, you've given up too easily - The internal contacts and springs are better on the new, IMHO...

I will when I get a long 11/16 socket--didn't have one on the boat. (Used a short one and water pump pliers. Ugh!)

Did you make that long run, or are you about to?
