Hi All,

I needed Nameplates for Miss Cleo and I bought all the remaining stock (5 total) from Sima Marine. I will want to keep at least one spare but would consider selling (at my cost) the other 2 to forum members in need.

On Miss Cleo, the boat length (39) was also displayed but the number is NOT part of the nameplates I purchased. I don't know if other models included the length as well. The number on at least one side also need to be replaced on Miss Cleo but I don't now have a source for them. I think I will see what it looks like with no number first but I have been toying with the idea of having nameplates with numbers laser-cut in stainless steel. This is surprisingly inexpensive and metal plates wouldn't crumble when they get old. Another reason I kind of like this idea is that the nameplate would be readily paintable to the color of the boat trim rather than just black.

So! I'd like to hear if there is interest from others in stainless nameplates and if numbers would be desired.

Also feel free to contact me if you might want one of the plastic nameplates I bought from Sima - I need to wait until all the paperwork is in to figure my cost but I am thinking that the price should be $12.83 plus shipping to you.

The first of the pics below shows where the nameplates are located on my FBS - the second shows the nameplate against a contrasting background - in the first pic, I have not yet replaced the plate and I have NOT been able to find a replacement for the numbers.

I saw a guy on a DIY car restoration show mold a new plastic tail light from a cracked one with some kind of plastic kit. My emblem is off the boat. It is kind of sunblasted but I am going to try and clean it up and paint it. Some enterprising individual should see about supplying new panels for the breaker switches and gauges. The corners tend to break off. The trick is how to engrave the see through lettering on the black opaque top layer and neatly drill all the holes without melting the plastic.

I've also been interested in new name plates and new panels. John has nameplates on the Marinette site, I've just been too cheap to bother. Has he dropped them?

As to the panels, we regularly have panels just like this etched for fire diagrams on commercial buildings. I've been threatening to look into having one of ours replicated, so this is a good reason to finally do it. Has anyone already been through this? If not, I'll look into it.

By the way, to protect those breaking corners, use a finish washer with your mounting screws - the countersinking head of the screw is breaking the plastic, let the screw stand proud above the plastic.

John does have them on the website and about 1.5 years ago I asked about them - he was going to order some including numbers but there must have been a problem because he still does not have them in stock.

I have had stainless sheets lazer cut in very complex patterns and am thinking about doing that. Alternatively I have a couple of the plastic nameplates that I could sell at cost as soon as I figure out what the total cost was (but no numbers). If you look into the panels I am interested but it might be difficult due to the variations year to year and model to model.
