The link below takes you to the altenator. No make is listed and the altenator is on the boat. As I recall it is a Masco and it is advertised as a "one wire". No aftermarket changes in the charging system. I really don't understand the electrician vocabulary (diodes and things). I do understand; connect the positive terminal on the altenator with a #8 to the battery and bypass the old external regulator by connecting the purple wire and the ??? I know it is a little frustrating dealing with my lack of electrical abilities; sorry and thanks.

Jim:

I went the Masco route 4 years ago and they work perfectly.

1. You do not use any of the wiring on your current external regulator setup. Disconnect the wiring from old alternator and the orange hot line remove completely or insulate it and tuck it away.

2. Run new min 8 gauge wire directly from terminal on new alternator through a 75 amp fuse and connect to battery. bank.

3. Repeat installation for other engine and battery bank.

Done!

On these alternators they will not put out until your engine exceeds 1,000 engine RPMs.. so kick your throttles at start up and away you go.

They use the same size belt.

safe boating ,
dave

Great! "Self starting" and "single wire" mean that most of my (typically long-winded) comment above doesn't apply. Should work just fine. I would use a breaker instead of a fuse, tho, so you won't have to keep spare fuses around.
