Pulled anchor at sunset and headed back to port when I noticed my nav lights were not on.
I tried the bridge switch and the lower helm switch, both were on.
Tried anchor light but it refused to light up.
Reached port and the nav lights and anchor light suddenly came on by themselves.
Has anyone dealt with this gremlin before?

Tim got it right about dirt. I had the same problem. My port light would not come on until I got to the dock. Took everything apart and cleaned all contacts.
Check the bulbs too. The epoxy on the ends of those festoon bulbs dries out and the caps come loose.

I got into the habit of running the nav lights whenever I leave the dock. They are like daytime running lights on the car. Figure it cant hurt especially for those weekend warrior, waterway rule challenged boaters that frequently cross my path.

In Florida the only toggle switches that can be depended on are the fully-sealed type. They are expensive, but worth it. Even better is a sealed breaker/switch that eliminates the fuse. This has been covered at length elsewhere in the forum.

All good suggestions, but I'm wondering why all the nav lights and anchor lights both refused to light.
I don't suspect the toggle swiches because there are 4 that would have to fail simultaneously for the nav lights and anchor lights to fail (bridge and lower helm).
This weekend I'll try to trace the wires back to a common point
p.s. When they suddenly came on, there was no flicker. They were bright and steady.
